DR. PHILLIPS  Many people are wearing Orlando United T-shirts and showing support in myriad ways for the victims and families of the June 12 massacre at Pulse Orlando, but a good number have also put their memorials into ink.

Four of Atomic Tattoos’ Central Florida locations — Conway, Dr. Phillips, UCF and Florida Mall — spent all day Saturday, June 18, giving clients tattoos dedicated to Pulse and Orlando. Jack Mihoover, managing partner and owner at Atomic Tattoos’ Conway location, said that the proceeds — a total of nearly $13,000 — from every memorial tattoo went straight to the OneOrlando fund.

“Anybody that got a memorial tattoo or any tattoo related to Orlando or Pulse, whatever they paid for the tattoo, all of that money went to OneOrlando,” Mihoover said. “The artists worked for free — the artists gave everything they made off of those tattoos. The only thing the artists kept was tips.”

After 14 hours of tattooing Saturday at each of the four locations, Atomic Tattoos raised $12,828.98 for the OneOrlando fund. Mihoover said that the shops did 245 tattoos total — with 110 done at the Dr. Phillips location on Turkey Lake Road alone.

Atomic Tattoos often has Friday the 13th tattoo and piercing specials that draw in crowds of clients, and Mihoover said each shop had long wait times for Saturday’s fundraiser, as well. However, he said, the atmosphere was different.

“Friday the 13th everyone’s trying to get something for cheap, and for this people were just trying to help out,” he said. “Each shop is in its own neighborhood, so it was people from that area and it was just a big sense of community. It was really cool to see people come together like that.”

Atomic Tattoos’ Dr. Phillips shop is located at 8972 Turkey Lake Road, Suite A-300 in Orlando.
