Brian Bruton, Lake Whitney Elementary’s beloved PE teacher of 18 years, died of a heart attack last month.

Mr. B, as he was better known, was known for his frequent high-fives and the care showed for each students. Read the Times & Observer’s tribute story here.

To remember Mr. B, the school has planned a mountable high-five plaque, trees with benches, a memory capsule, and new lettering to name the PE pavilion “B’s Place.” The school would also like to provide, in Mr. B’s honor, scholarships for students he mentored.

This weekend, 22 baseball teams of 10- to 12-year-old players will compete to raise money for Mr. B’s family and the memorial.
