Although prosecutors have decided not to pursue charges against Bob Head, he will not return as West Orange High School's head football coach.

“Bob has been let go as the football coach," Athletic Director Jerry Shafer said. "We want to thank him and his family for the time that he has given to West Orange.”

Head was accused last month of striking his wife in the head during an argument.

On Feb. 11, Assistant State Attorney Jenniza Rosado notified Orange County’s circuit court that prosecutors did not find the case suitable for prosecution and were dropping it.

Head, 44, was arrested Jan. 21 and charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon in a domestic-violence case. According to Winter Garden police, an officer responded to Head’s home on Turningwind Lane in reference to a battery.

Upon arrival, Head’s son told the officer his mother had been struck by his father, the report stated. The officer reported that he saw Head’s wife lying on her stomach and bleeding from her head.

Head’s wife told officers that they had gotten into an argument that turned physical, during which she threw a plastic plate at Head in the kitchen. She said as she walked away, he struck her in the back of the head. Police determined the object was a wooden decorative window frame with a wrought-iron decoration taken off a wall.

His wife refused to press charges, according to police. In a bond motion, Head’s lawyer indicated Head’s wife wanted him to be allowed to reside at their home during the trial. The motion also stated Head’s wife was not fearful of him in any way.

Because the case has been dismissed, Head will return to his position as a physical education teacher at West Orange.

Shafer said the search is underway for the school's next football coach.

“It was put in the FHSAA classifieds, so it should be posting soon," he said. "That ends March 15, and we’ll do interviews right after.”
