Following an anonymous tip to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement on Friday, June 7, officials with the Winter Garden Police Department and Orange County Sheriff’s Office have been in east Orlando awaiting the identification of a body found in a shallow grave.

The body was unearthed in a wooded area near Robertson Road, in the Wedgefield community.

Winter Garden Police Capt. Jason Pearson said he did not know if the tip was affiliated with the AMBER Alert that went out Friday, May 31, regarding 16-year-old Bruce “B.J.” Haggins, of Winter Garden. Haggins was last seen near Lincoln Terrace and 11th Street in Winter Garden before witnesses say he was shot and kidnapped.

“We came out and found some disturbed dirt,” Pearson said. “We are recovering a body. We’re not sure if it’s black, white, male, female …”

The Orange County medical examiner was on the scene Friday afternoon, Pearson said.

FDLE, OCSO and Winter Garden have been working together on the investigation.

Pearson said an arrest has been made in connection with the AMBER Alert and the abduction but did not have further details.

“These are two separate incidents, and we won’t know (if they’re related) until we identify the body,” Pearson said.
