Winter Park teens Simeon Hall and Jesse Sutherland, both on trial for charges of manslaughter and battery following the death of 15-year-old Roger Trindade in October 2016, will be charged as adults – a decision made by prosecutors in two separate hearings this week.
The two 16-year-old defendants were 15 at the time when they were involved in an altercation that broke out in Winter Park's Central Park on Oct. 15, 2016 that left Winter Park High Schooler Roger Trindade brain dead. He was taken off life support a couple days later.
The Orange County Clerk of Courts website shows that both 16-year-olds are being charged as adults. A third suspect has been charged with battery and tampering with evidence, though they are still being charged as a minor.
Hall's charges in the Trindade case are in addition to a separate charges of felony battery and destroying electronic monitoring equipment. Those charges are related to when Hall was recently arrested a second time on Oct. 8 for allegedly attacking another juvenile in Ward Park.
The victim suffered "significant" injuries to the head, though they are reported as non-life threatening.
