Orange County Public Schools will not host live graduations for the Class of 2020.

Superintendent Dr. Barbara Jenkins announced the decision Monday, July 7, to parents.

"I want to again congratulate you and your children of this notable accomplishment," she said. "I know our students will go on to accomplish great things. As promised, I am calling to give you the final decision regarding in-person graduation ceremonies. I am sure you are aware of the increasing number of COVID-19 cases in Orange County. After consulting with Dr. (Raul) Pino of the Health Department, and based upon his expert guidance, I am sad to announce that there will be no in-person graduation ceremonies for the Class of 2020.

"I want to thank you for your patience and support during these unprecedented times," Jenkins said. "We wish your senior all the best and a promising future filled with success."

After live graduations were canceled in May and June, OCPS had proposed hosting live graduations in late July if conditions allowed.
