Brennan Cooper, 18, of Boy Scout Troop 320, will be honored at a special Eagle Scout ceremony at 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 13, at Windermere Town Hall.

To earn Scouting’s highest award, he had to earn 21 merit badges, serve as a leader in his troop and complete a major community service project.

Cooper’s service project took place at Nehrling Gardens, in Gotha. Leading a group of scouts and adults, he cleared overgrowth from a historical magnolia tree and created trails and a viewing area so the public can now access and enjoy the beauty of this magnificent tree.

Cooper is a charter member of Troop 320, charted to Bridgewater Middle School, and has been in scouting for 10 years. He has served the troop as senior patrol leader, assistant senior patrol leader, Order of the Arrow representative, patrol leader and quartermaster. He helped to plant thousands of trees in Ocala National Forest and also served as a counselor at Camp Daniel Boone for three years.

The scout is a freshman at Florida State University majoring in business administration.
