Ira Levin's "Death Trap" at WPHS

Winter Park High School will put on a production of Ira Levin’s “Death Trap” on Thursday, Oct. 2, at 7 p.m.; Friday, Oct. 3, at 7 p.m.; and Saturday, Oct. 4, at 2 and 7 p.m. Join writer Sidney Bruhl in his study, festooned with an array of weapons, while he attempts to concoct his most intriguing plot to date. The Tony-nominated and Edgar Award-winning play, full of twists and turns, is sure to leave audiences laughing and on the edge of their seats. For more information, call 407-622-3200.

October’s First Friday Festival will be 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 3, along New Broad Street. First Friday is a monthly event where patrons can shop, stroll and sip their way through Baldwin Park's Village Center. With live music, free samples, food and drink specials (plus much more), there's something for everyone at First Fridays! The festival also features local artists, many Central Florida-based small businesses, and non-profit organizations with products and services ranging from health and fitness, to beauty and fashion, as well as community service opportunities. Local residents ages 50 and up can take advantage of a free active aging resource EXPO from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 3, at the Winter Park Community Center. Get your flu shot from National Council on Aging’s “Flu+You,” get free health screenings and attend free seminars on identity theft, self-defense, elder abuse, fall prevention and Medicare 101. Meet area service providers, agencies, housing pros, health care representatives, Medicare specialists, and other professionals who provide valuable products and services to the community. The only nighttime art festival in Florida, the 38th Maitland Rotary’s Art Under the Stars, is a magical experience for artists and patrons alike. With continuous live entertainment on two stages, sponsored by Performing Arts Maitland, the art show and sale will take place from 6 to 10 p.m. on Oct. 3; noon to 10 p.m. on Oct. 4; and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Oct. 5, surrounding Lake Lily in Maitland. Longtime member and friend of the Goldenrod Chamber of Commerce, Carole Arthurs is turning 80 years young and the Chamber is hosting a birthday party in her honor on Saturday, Oct. 4, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Goldenrod Station, located at 4755 N. The Parks & Recreation Department of the city of Winter Park and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission present their annual free Test the Waters Fishing Tournament at Martin Luther King Jr. Park from 7 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 4. Children of all ages are invited to participate in this fun-filled event. Bait, fishing poles and snacks will be provided for all participants. On Saturday, Oct. 4, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., don’t miss the Virginia Heights fourth annual Yard Sale with lots of treasures from multiple homes in the Virginia Heights neighborhood, located between Pennsylvania, Clarendon, Lakeview and Highland. Join Unicorp for the unveiling of the final plan for the redevelopment of Mount Vernon Inn at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 7, at the Rachel D. Murrah Civic Center, located at 1050 W. Morse Blvd. This plan incorporates previous community comments from the meeting on July 31.

Don’t miss Popcorn Flicks in the Park on Thursday, Oct. 9, at 8 p.m. in Central Park, featuring “The Mummy.” Presented by Winter Park CRA and produced by Enzian Theater, this free film series features classic films for the whole family. More than 150 Central Florida artists will display their work at the 41st annual Winter Park Autumn Art Festival in Central Park on Saturday, Oct. 11, and Sunday, Oct. 12, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Enjoy entertainment, food, and hands-on art workshops for children. The festival is hosted by the Winter Park Chamber of Commerce, presented by Florida Blue and Subaru, and co-sponsored by the city of Winter Park. Parking is often at a premium during this busy weekend. To accommodate our visitors, complimentary valet parking is available at three locations in downtown Winter Park. Plus, a free shuttle service will be available from near the Winter Park Village. A bike valet will also be available for guests who wish to cycle to the event. A secure area will be available to valet park bicycles at the corner of West Park and New England avenues, near the railroad tracks. Attention “Star Wars” fans: this is the day for you! The Maitland Public Library will host Star Wars Reads Day on Saturday, Oct. 11, from 2 to 4 p.m. The library will have a “Star Wars” movie marathon, lightsaber Wii battles, snacks, crafts, and our special guests – the 501st Legion (aka Stormtroopers)!
