MAY 2

Date Night at Leu Gardens returns with the classic film “A Streetcar Named Desire” at 8:30 p.m. May 2. Bring a blanket or some chairs and a picnic basket, and see the gardens and a movie for only $6 per adult. It’s free for Leu Gardens members. Visit leugardens.org for more information.

A healthy living lecture on preventing osteoporosis is at noon on May 2 at the Crosby YMCA, 2005 Mizell Ave. in Winter Park. Learn how to prevent or even reverse osteoporosis.

MAY 3

Derby on Park will celebrate and watch the 140th running of the Kentucky Derby live at the Winter Park Country Club. It’s a classy but laid back celebration of the world’s most popular horse race, with a costume contest included. Bring your best retro Derby-chic duds to compete and have fun with your fellow racing enthusiasts. It’s a throwback with a festive flair, complete with drinks. The Circles group is having an interactive seminar at the Winter Park Library on May 3rd from 2 to 4 p.m. Collaborative workshops for coping with challenges, overcoming obstacles in a balanced way, and tasting firsthand ideal states of happiness and well-being will be able to help you live a less stressful life.

MAY 3-5

Cocina 214 is celebrating Cinco de Mayo with a weekend-long fiesta that includes a two-day block party (May 3 and 4), the second annual Running of the Chihuahuas and a Patron ice luge event. Starting at noon Saturday and 11 a.m. Sunday, a local DJ will be spinning Latin and Top-40 hits, while ambassadors from participating partners, Jose Cuervo and Corona, serve up drinks. On Sunday, May 4, locals can enter their dogs into the second annual Running of the Chihuahuas ($10 in advance or $15 at the door), with all proceeds benefiting Winter Park Lost Pets and A Cause 4 Paws Rescue. The party will continue on Cinco de Mayo (Monday, May 5) as the restaurant celebrates its three-year anniversary with a Patron Ice Luge starting at 5 p.m. followed by Corona giveaways and Don Julio tequila samples. Please join Winter Park Chamber of Commerce President/CEO Patrick Chapin and Chamber member Kona Ice of Winter Park for sweets and treats at Grey's Fifth Annual Purple Lemonade Stand. The fundraiser benefits those diagnosed with Sanfilippo Syndrome, a terminal genetic disease Patrick's niece was diagnosed with in 2008. Since then, the Chapin family and many others are determined to help advance research for a treatment and ultimately a cure. It’s from 1 to 4 p.m. on May 4 at 1600 W. Ivanhoe Blvd. in Orlando. Winter Park Executive Women will feature a lunch with Deb Cheslow, achievement expert, corporate trainer and best-selling author. This inspiring luncheon will help you achieve your goals. It’s from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Winter Park Welcome Center, 151 W. Lyman Ave. in Winter Park.
