The sixth annual Crystal Ball Corporate Cocktail benefiting the Central & Northeastern Florida Chapter of the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation runs from 6:30 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 27, at the Winter Park Civic Center, located at 1050 W. The Winter Park Breakfast Rotary Club will be hosting a social from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 27, at TAPS in the Winter Park Village, located at 480 N. Orlando Ave. in Winter Park. The Mall at Millenia is hosting an outdoor concert featuring live music by Violectric and DJ Juel from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 28 at the mall’s main entrance. Admission is free, but concertgoers can sample food and drinks for a $15 donation. All proceeds will benefit the Florida Hospital Breast Cancer Care Fund. Concertgoers can donate via Eventbrite.com

The Winter Park History Museum will present “Florida Heroes of World War II” featuring Thomas Tart on Friday, Oct. 28, at noon in the Winter Park Chamber of Commerce, located at 151 W. Ten Thousand Villages on Park Avenue is marking its 10th anniversary with an international-themed evening of food, music and live entertainment on Friday, Oct. 28, from 6 to 9:30 p.m. There will be Asian-themed food and entertainment at Ten Thousand Villages, a Latin American fiesta in the Hidden Garden courtyard at Ancient Olive and a Kenyan village at the First United Methodist Church of Winter Park. The Art & History Museums – Maitland will kick off the season with a preview of “John Petrey & Derek Gores: Marking 40 Years of the Rotary Art Festival” during Culture Pop! on Oct. 28. Join in on not-so-scary Halloween fun during Rollins College’s 17th annual Halloween Howl on Oct. 29 from 2 to 5 p.m. This free, family-fun event will include crafts, a costume contest and carnival games as well as an opportunity for children to trick or treat through residence halls and tour haunted houses created at Rollins. The Vintage Bazaar runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 29 at the Maitland Civic Center – Venue on the Lake, located at 641S. Maitland Ave. The event will host more than 40 vendors with antique treasures for sale.

On Sunday, Oct. 30, it's time for the 17th annual Pet Costume Contest hosted by The Doggie Door and sponsored by The New Barker. Medium/large dogs compete at 10:30 a.m., and tiny/small dogs have their time to shine at noon. Trick or treating for dogs along Park Avenue begins at noon. The event will be held in the north end of Central Park near the bandstand. Your dogs can win prizes in many categories during this fun-filled day for the whole family! Proceeds benefit The Sebastian Haul Fund, helping local greyhound groups transport rescued greyhounds to their forever homes. 

Come dance for a cause at Zumbafest on Sunday, Oct. 30 from 1-3 p.m. at the RDV Sportsplex in Maitland. The event benefits the Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida. Non-members are welcome with a donation of non-perishable food items. Costumes optional.

The Parks & Recreation Department of the city of Winter Park will present the sixth annual Pumpkins & Munchkins in Shady Park on Monday, Oct. 31, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. adjacent to the Winter Park Community Center at 721 W. New England Ave. Munchkins of all ages are invited to attend this free family-friendly event. Fun-filled activities will include games, bounce houses, a costume contest, Trick-or-Treat Trail and safe Halloween fun for everyone. Dr. Helen Von Dolteren-Fournier and Dr. Hank Fishkind will discuss the election’s impact on the financial future in “Financial Planning in an Election Year” on Tuesday, Nov. 1 at 7 p.m. at 90.7 WMFE Studios at 11510 E. Winter Park’s Parks and Recreation Department is pleased to present “Chalk the Walk” in Central Park on Saturday, Nov. 5 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Artists will decorate the sidewalks of Central Park with art. $2,500 in prizes will be given to winners from adult, high school and middle school categories. On Nov. 11 the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 183 out of Fern Park will be distributing poppies for Veteran's Day from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Sam's Club at 355 Semoran Blvd. in Fern Park. On Nov. 12 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. they will be distributing poppies outside the Publix at Maitland Place, located at 242 N. Orlando Ave. in Maitland.

Healthy Central Florida, Florida Hospital and the Winter Park Health Foundation are sponsoring a way to help Central Floridians stay fit. The Walk90 Challenge started Oct. 1 and encourages locals to walk at least 7,000 steps a day for 90 days and monitor their progress through a free online tool that can sync with most fitness tracking devices. Who is Pierre Matisse? Pierre Henri Matisse is the grandson of French painter Henri Matisse, one of the most important artists of the early 20th centuryMatisse grew up among some of the most famous artists of the times including Pablo Picasso, Georges Barque, Jean Effel, Salvador Dali, and Marcel Duchamp. Today, Matisse uses his talent and boundless energy to refine an art form known as "cut-outs" that translates different mediums into avant-garde mixed media. Visit an exhibition of his work at the Albin Polasek Museum and Sculpture Gardens through Nov. 27.
