Just in time for the Halloween season, Theatre UCF comes alive with “The New Mel Brooks Musical Young Frankenstein,” running Oct. 20 to 30 on the UCF Main Stage. Based on the beloved 1974 film of the same name featuring the late Gene Wilder, “Young Frankenstein” tells the story of Frederick Frankenstein, grandson of the infamous monster-creator Victor Frankenstein, who travels to Transylvania upon inheriting his family estate. Tickets for “Young Frankenstein” are $20 for adults and $10 for students. Tickets can be purchased at theatre.ucf.edu or by calling or visiting the box office Monday through Friday, noon to 5 p.m., at 407-823-1500. This production contains some content that may not be suitable for young audience members, including some curse words and moderate sexual innuendos. Sociology professor Dr. Tony Campolo is speaking on Thursday, Oct. 20, at 6:30 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Winter Park, located at 125 N. Interlachen Ave. in Winter Park. Dr. Campolo is a dynamic and highly respected speaker. The event is free and open to the public.

A celebration honoring Dr. James Rosier Jr.’s 50 years as a humanitarian runs Oct. 20-22 at True Deliverance Center, 29 South Ivey Lane in Orlando and Love Thy Neighbor Church, 2130 W. Come visit the Pink Out booth at this year’s College Park JazzFest on Oct. 22 to pick-up your Pink Out flamingo. College Park JazzFest features 10 bands on three main stages, for a night of smooth, funky and soulful jazz to enjoy with friends and family along Edgewater Drive starting at 6 p.m. All restaurants, boutiques, and businesses along Edgewater Drive are open for you to browse and shop. Take part in a weekend showing support for John Michael Night as Mercer University faces off against Rollins College in a lacrosse match at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 22, in Baker Family Stadium at Rollins. Cost is $5. A K-12 lacrosse clinic will be held at Trinity Prep School the following day from noon to 2 p.m. Cost is a $20 minimum donation. All proceeds benefit the John Michael Night recovery fund.

Greyt Plates, a fundraiser for greyhound pets of America/Greater Orlando, runs from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 22, Venue on the Lake-Maitland Civic Center, located at 641 S. Maitland Blvd. in Maitland. The event will include live and silent auctions, live music, and catering provided by Magic Occasions. Tickets are $40. The Corvette Club of Orlando will present a generation of Corvettes at the Corvette Classic Car Show on Saturday, Oct. 22 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Winter Park Village’s Main Street. Come for an afternoon of car-gazing and shopping with live music by Johnny Mag Sax. Attendees can vote on their favorite Corvette. While the rest of the country turns back the clock on Nov. 6, the Jewish Pavilion is getting a head start on Sunday, Oct. 23. Special Olympics Florida will host its 10th annual Jack in the Park fundraiser on Oct. 24 at the Rachel D. Murrah Civic Center, 1050 W. Morse Blvd, Winter Park from 7 to 11 p.m. The night brings together gourmet dishes, live music, an auction, open bar and blackjack tournament for an evening of fun. The League of Women Voters Orange County is offering a free informative session to make this political season a little less overwhelming. The annual free Homecoming Parade and Pep Rally for Winter Park High School will make its way down Park Avenue beginning at 5:15 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 26. New England Ave. Munchkins of all ages are invited to attend this free family-friendly event. Fun-filled activities will include games, bounce houses, a costume contest, Trick-or-Treat Trail and safe Halloween fun for everyone. Dr. Helen Von Dolteren-Fournier and Dr. Hank Fishkind will discuss the election’s impact on the financial future in “Financial Planning in an Election Year” on Tuesday, Nov. 1 at 7 p.m at 90.7 WMFE Studios at 11510 E. Healthy Central Florida, Florida Hospital and the Winter Park Health Foundation are sponsoring a way to help Central Floridians stay fit. The Walk90 Challenge started Oct. 1 and encourages locals to walk at least 7,000 steps a day for 90 days and monitor their progress through a free online tool that can sync with most fitness tracking devices. Who is Pierre Matisse? Pierre Henri Matisse is the grandson of French painter Henri Matisse, one of the most important artists of the early 20th century. Born in Paris in 1928, Matisse grew up among some of the most famous artists of the times including Pablo Picasso, Georges Barque, Jean Effel, Salvador Dali, and Marcel Duchamp. Today, Matisse uses his talent and boundless energy to refine an art form known as "cut-outs" that translates different mediums into avant-garde mixed media. Visit an exhibition of his work at the Albin Polasek Museum and Sculpture Gardens through Nov. 27 and dive into bold, crisp lines, elegant shapes with boundless movement, and colors mixed with a pleasurable strangeness only a Matisse could produce. Museum hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Sunday, 1 to 4 p.m.; and closed Mondays.
