JULY 4

Runners, walkers and fitness enthusiasts of all ages can have summertime fun by participating in the Hunter Vision Watermelon 5K on Thursday, July 4, on Park Avenue in downtown Winter Park. The 3.1-mile run/walk begins at 7 a.m. It’s an All-American-style celebration featuring a shady course, entertainment, free kids’ run and watermelon-eating contest. From Paul Revere silver to Rookwood pottery, from Louis Comfort Tiffany glass to Daniel Chester French sculpture, it’s all on view for free this Independence Day at The Charles Hosmer Morse Museum of American Art. Observing its long-standing tradition for the holiday, the museum will provide free admission to its galleries on Thursday, July 4, in conjunction with Winter Park’s Olde Fashioned 4th of July Celebration in Central Park. The museum will be open from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Winter Park’s Olde Fashioned 4th of July Celebration from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. includes a bicycle parade, horse-drawn wagon rides, live patriotic music by the Bach Festival Choir and more. It’s peak boating season in Florida, and the upcoming Fourth of July holiday and the weekend following means the waterways will be jammed with recreational boaters. Save the Manatee Club is handing out free banners that boaters can raise on their boats when there’s a manatee nearby, to warn other boaters. The Art & History Museums –Maitland’s (A&H) popular program Ladies’ Art Lounge continues with bookmaking fun on Friday, July 5, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the A&H’s Germaine Marvel Building, located at 210 W. Baldwin Park will host its annual Independence Day Bash on Friday, July 5, along New Broad Street in the Village Center beginning at 5:30 p.m. This year’s event also coincides with the monthly First Friday series hosted by the Baldwin Park Merchant’s Association, and the two events will be combined to create a large, family friendly festival culminating with a choreographed fireworks show over Lake Baldwin in Harbor Park after dark.
