APRIL 21

For over 15 years, Night On Broadway has been a highlight of the artistic year for Winter Park High School and the Winter Park community. This year’s show, “British Invasion,” will focus on the musical legacy and offerings of England. The cast and crew of over 350 students, parents, volunteers, and industry professionals will bring to life musical selections by Andrew Lloyd Webber, Gilbert & Sullivan, and rock icons like The Beatles, The Who, and Queen. This year’s show takes place Thursday, April 21 through Saturday, April 23 at 7:30 p.m. in the WPHS Ann Derflinger Auditorium. Proceeds benefit the Tyler Rush Memorial Scholarship Fund. Are you craving Jeremiah's Italian Ice? Come to this month’s Food Truck Café Event at Venue on the Lake in Maitland from 6 to 9 p.m. on Friday, April 22. Jeremiah's will be there along with a handful of other food trucks.

APRIL 23

The Run for the Trees Jeannette Genius McKean Memorial 5K will be held on Saturday, April 23, beginning at 7:30 a.m. at the Showalter Field. Every participant will receive a young tree in addition to a commemorative T-shirt. Winners will receive landscape trees. Come out for a great ladies night, called the Central Florida Mom Prom 2016, for charity supporting ICAN of Central Florida from 7 to 11 p.m. on Saturday, April 23, at the Holiday Inn located at 1724 N. Alafaya Trail in Orlando. ICAN is a nonprofit organization with over 150 chapters worldwide. Their mission is to improve maternal-child health by preventing unnecessary cesareans through education, providing support for cesarean recovery, and promoting vaginal birth after cesarean. Families, friends and pets are invited to Harbor House of Central Florida’s sixth annual Paws for Peace Walk at Blue Jacket Park in Baldwin Park on Saturday, April 23. Registration will begin at 8 a.m., and the walk will start at 9 a.m. Participants will walk to raise awareness about the impact of domestic abuse on pets and their owners. All of the proceeds will go toward funding veterinary and kennel services for survivors’ pets staying in Harbor House’s short-term emergency housing. Jeremiah’s Italian Ice of Maitland will open its doors at its new location in Shoppes at Maitland on Wednesday, April 20. To kick off Jeremiah’s return to the area, it will host a Grand Reopening on Saturday, April 23 from 11 a.m. to 11pm, featuring free treats all day long. Each customer can beat the heat with any one free small dine-in menu item while also enjoying live music, balloon artists and raffles.

Aspiring writers are encouraged to join the Danny Powell at the Maitland Art & History Museums from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 23 for a workshop called "Storytelling with fo(u)nd memories: using photographs to jump start your writing.” The cost per person is $36 for A&H members and $40 for non-members. The Winter Park YMCA will host Safety Around Water from Monday, April 25 to Thursday, April 28 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Cady Way pool. These free swim lessons will be open to the community to discuss safety basics around bodies of water for children ages 4 to 12. Parents can register their children at the Lakemont location of the Winter Park YMCA.

Come and learn the public speaking techniques that serial entrepreneur and spoken word artist O. Falade used to overcome his public speaking fears, present in front of more than 2,500 people, win more than $65,000, organize more than 300 workshops and compete in national and international competitions. This is a 90-minute workshop from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. that will help you overcome your fears of public speaking and make any public presentation that much easier. The cost is $30 and will take place at IZEA Inc. at 480 N. An eight-week class titled “The Power of Decision: A Step-By-Step Program to Overcome Indecision and Live Without Failure Forever” runs from April 28 through June 23 at the Florida Federation of Garden Clubs, located at 1400 S. Denning Dr. in Winter Park. No class will be held on May 26. A Labyrinth Design Class will be held Saturday, April 30, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Florida Federation of Garden Clubs, located at 1400 S. Denning Drive in Winter Park, just south of Mead Botanical Garden. This Labyrinth Design and Shamanic Gardening Workshop will offer a rare opportunity to learn how to create a 7-Path Labyrinth, a classical design that has been used worldwide for more than 3500 years. This class will be taught by Melinda Joy Miller, author of “Shamanic Gardening: Timeless Techniques for the Modern Sustainable Garden.” Cost is $25. Bring a bagged lunch. The seventh annual Black and White Weekend runs from Friday, May 6, to Sunday, May 8, at the Rosen Plaza Hotel, located at 9700 International Drive in Orlando.
