JULY 17

Dive into a great movie all while splashing around in the pool! The Winter Park Community Center will be hosting a Dive in Movie night featuring “Finding Nemo” on Saturday, July 17, at 7:30 p.m. A special deal of 50 percent off regular price admission will be offered for non-residents. Smoothie King will host a ribbon cutting ceremony for its new storefront grand opening at 2254 Aloma Ave. in Winter Park on Friday, July 17, from 7 to 9 a.m. Free Smoothie King T-shirts will be given to the first 100 guests and attendees will have a chance to win a $250 “Smoothies for Summer” gift card. JULY 18

Award-winning weaver Berna Lowenstein will present a one-hour program titled “Weaving Without a Loom” on Saturday, July 18, for the Weavers of Orlando in the first-floor multi-purpose room of The Winter Park Towers, located at 1111 S. Lakemont Circle, Winter Park. The monthly Weavers of Orlando meetings are from 10 a.m. to noon, and are fun and informative, designed for both the beginning and advanced weaver. Txokos Basque Kitchen located at the East End Market invites you to celebrate the taste of Basque Country at a Paella Party, every third Saturday of the month from noon to 3:30 p.m. (July 18 this month). The monthly party is first-come first-served (no pre-purchased tickets) unless you are a Txokos Club member. Head over to the Ancient Olive on Park Avenue at 5:15 p.m. on July 19 for a cooking lesson tilted, “Easy Cuban Dishes Cooking Class.” Maria Ruiz-Castaneda, creator of Kernel Desires gourmet candied nuts, will show you techniques that you can use in your everyday cooking, so you can feel more confident in the kitchen, and open yourself up to creativity. In this session, learn to make Cuban sandwiches with slow cooked mojo pork, picadillo (a ground beef dish), plantains two ways and a Cuban dessert. The Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd in Maitland will rededicate its newly-restored 1888 bell in a public ceremony on Sunday, July 19, following the regular 10:30 a.m. worship service. The historic bell was cast in 1888 by McShane Bell Foundry in Baltimore, Md. The foundry, now located in Glen Burnie, Md., is still in business. The bell was returned to the foundry for the restoration, which includes polishing, a new supporting frame, and the installation of an automated ringing system. The bell is mounted on a pedestal on the front lawn of the church between the main sanctuary and the historic chapel. It continues to be used for regular and special services. Tours are available by appointment by contacting the church office at 407-644-5350.

The Winter Park Chamber of Commerce has worked to develop, promote and sustain a thriving business community for more than 125 years. On Thursday, July 23, at 5:30 p.m. the Chamber will honor the legacy and longevity of Winter Park businesses. The Salute to Business Celebration, presented by Winter Park Memorial Hospital, is an opportunity to recognize over 220 companies with anniversaries of 25 to 49 years and an astounding 17 that have been part of Winter Park for over 50 years! JULY 24

The Winter Park Playhouse sets sail with the well-loved tap-dancing musical comedy “Dames At Sea.” Set in New York City, this quintessential American musical features the hottest tap dancing this side of 42nd Street has ever seen! This is the first production in a series of six professional musicals the Playhouse is offering through June 2016. The show runs July 24 through Aug. 22. Enjoy family, fun, and food at the Winter Park Community Center Pool for a Poolside Picnic Party. There will be games, contests, prizes and drawings for a free admission punch pass and annual lap swim pass for the remainder of the season! Happy birthday, Maitland! The city of Maitland will be celebrating its 130th birthday with a bang at Lake Lily Park on Saturday, July 25, at 6 p.m. This family friendly event will feature lots of entertainment, including a touch-a-truck exhibit, hair braiders, balloon artists, face painters, and carnival games. Bring your appetite for American summer eats and treats with hotdogs, hamburgers, popcorn and Jeremiah's Italian Ice, all available for purchase. Join Keep Winter Park Beautiful and help clean up Lake Osceola and areas within the watershed. Groups will meet at North Central Park at 8 a.m. on July 25 and then be deployed to predetermined locations based upon participation. Equipment will be supplied by the city of Winter Park. Complimentary volunteer appreciation breakfast will be held at 8 a.m. T-shirts and water bottles will be available while supplies last. The Center for Contemporary Dance, a 14-year-old nonprofit dance education, production and incubation center located in Winter Park, has partnered with Orlando Ballet School and National Dance Day Orlando Founder/Creative Director Holly Harris to present this year's celebration on Saturday, July 25. Activities include free dance classes led by the area's top dance educators and designed for students of all ages, levels and abilities. The day also includes free performances by Orlando's most respected professional dance companies. Morning classes and performances take place at Orlando Cultural Park, located at 530 E. Princeton St. in Orlando, across from Loch Haven Park. Additional morning and afternoon classes take place within walking distance of the park at Orlando Ballet School Central Campus, located at 2201 McRae Ave. in Orlando. Welbourne Avenue Nursery and Kindergarten’s second annual Friends Family FUN Bowl-A-Thon runs from 5 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, July 25, at the Aloma Bowling Center, located at 2530 Aloma Ave. in Winter Park. A cost of $25 includes two hours of bowling, shoes, half cheese and half pepperoni topping pizza per lane and one pitcher of soda per lane. The Winter Park Sunday Running Group has been a source of pleasant running experiences and friendships for hundreds of runners over 40 years. Join them every Sunday starting July 26 at 7 a.m. starting along Park Avenue at Welbourne Avenue. They encourage and welcome runners of all ages and speeds to join them on the course, which offers exceptional scenery throughout Winter Park. The most popular distances range from 5 to 10 miles, but the course easily accommodates shorter loops of 3 or 4 miles. Visit orlandorunnersclub.org
