The Art & History Museums – Maitland (A&H) opens two exhibits, The Power of Two and Spatial Relationships, on Friday, Sept. 28, in the A&H’s Main Galleries, 231 W. Packwood Ave., Maitland. A reception is from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sept. 28.

Poets will have the opportunity to present their work Friday, Sept. 28, from 7 to 9:30 p.m. at The Maitland Public Library Open Mic Night Coffeehouse. The theme for the evening is the “People from my Neighborhood.” Coffee and snacks will be provided. Elaine Person, local poet teaches Sunday afternoon classes at the Library on a regular basis, and members of her class will be presenting their work on Friday evening. The Albin Polasek Museum & Sculpture Gardens will feature “Life in the Fast Lane: The Art of David Delong” from Tuesday, Oct. 2, through April 14. The exhibition focuses on Delong’s belief that motorcycles provide the perfect metaphor for life and art. The original works on display will focus on the culture of motorcycle racing and will include oil painting, pen and ink drawings, and etchings from the late 1950s to 2001.

“Mindfulness, Life Satisfaction & Inner Peace,” a five-week meditation series, will be held at the Polasek Gardens from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. every Tuesday in October. The classes will be led by Teri Reuter, and will take place regardless of weather. The price for the general public is $50 for the entire series, or $10 per session. “Return of Frankenshow” will be held at Stardust Video and Coffee, 1842 E. Winter Park Road, from 7 to 11 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 5. The free show, presented by Doug Rhodehamel, features works of art created with the same technique used by Dr. Frankenstein, parts and pieces bolted or stitched together to form a single horrible unit.

The Baldwin Park Merchants Association will host its next First Friday Charity Festival & Art Stroll on Friday, Oct. 5, from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. along New Broad Street in Baldwin Park.

Over 40 local artists of all genres will display their works of art while guests shop, stroll and sip through the heart of downtown Baldwin Park. Just in time for Halloween, the October Art Stroll will showcase the works of Vaughn Belak, an artist with a passion for remaking well-known to obscure monsters and creatures of the night. Vaughn’s sui generis technique creates a realistic interpretation of human emotions – from sorrow to loneliness, heartbreak to innocence – making his monsters virtually come to life.

The Central Florida Watercolor Society will hold its next monthly meeting at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 7, at the Maitland Art Center, Marvel Building, 231 Packwood Ave. A short business meeting will be followed with a demonstration by nationally known watercolorist Tom Jones, who is also a Central Florida resident. The city of Winter Park will have a Fall Cleanup in October in addition to the annual Spring Cleanup is pleased to announce that in addition to the annual Spring Cleanup. This large-item pickup service will provide a ‘bonus’ day on which Waste Pro®, the city’s solid waste service provider, will pick up old furniture, broken appliances and other bulky items. To take advantage of this convenient service, residents must place their items curbside after 5 p.m. on the evening before their second scheduled garbage and trash pickup day on their designated cleanup week. The deadline to register to vote in the Nov. 6 General Election is Tuesday, Oct. 9, which is 29 days prior to the election. Orange County citizens 18 and older that are not currently registered to vote must complete a voter registration application by Oct. 9 in order to vote. The Southern Women’s Show will return to Orlando Thursday, Oct. 11, through Sunday, Oct. 14. The Southern Women’s Show celebrates its 22nd year featuring shopping, runway shows, cooking and health demonstrations, and a museum quality display that offers a glimpse into the life of Diana, the beloved People’s Princess, highlighting some of her most famous gowns.
