The Bach Festival Society announces its second annual special-event fundraiser, Fête at Feliz, a casual evening at Casa Feliz Historical Home Museum in Winter Park. The event will be on Thursday, Oct. 13, from 6 p.m.-8:30 p.m. and will include a preview of the 2011–12 season with conductor John V. Sinclair, music performed by members of the Bach Festival Choir and Orchestra, wine from Clois Du Bois, hors d’oeuvres from Arthur’s catering, tours of historic Casa Feliz and the chance to bid on silent auction items. Central Florida Anthropological Society’s Oct.13 meeting will be at Harry P. Good Samaritan Villages’ fall village-wide yard sale is Saturday, Oct. 15, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 4197 S. Orange Blossom Trail, Kissimmee. More than 70 homes are participating.

On Saturday, Oct. 15, the Orlando Philharmonic presents an evening of music and film titled “Night at the Oscars”, the second concert of the 2011-2012 Super Series. Concerts feature the Philharmonic performing selections from some of the best-loved Hollywood films of all time, including “Ben-Hur”, “Gone With the Wind” and “The Wizard of Oz”. As the orchestra performs, dazzling new 35mm prints of memorable movie scenes are projected on a big screen above. Florida Hospital HospiceCare is looking for volunteers to visit patients throughout Orange and Osceola counties. Volunteers will be trained to provide respite, spiritual support and companionship to the patients and families of HospiceCare. The city of Winter Park will provide a Fall Cleanup during the month of October just in time for the holiday season. This large-item pickup service will provide a ‘bonus’ day on which Waste Pro, the city’s solid waste service provider, will pick up old furniture, broken appliances and other bulky items. To take advantage of this convenient service, residents must place their items curbside after 5 p.m. on the evening before their second scheduled garbage and trash pickup day on their designated cleanup week.
