LENTEN FISH FRY

4:30 to 7 p.m. Friday, March 2, in the Parish Hall of Resurrection Catholic Church, 1211 Winter Garden Vineland Road, Winter Garden. Sponsored by the Knights of Columbus. SATURDAY, MARCH 3

VAN GOGH LECTURE

4 to 5:30 p.m. Saturday, March 3, at the Winter Garden Art Association's SoBo Gallery, 127 S. Boyd St., Winter Garden. This lecture will discuss Vincent Van Gogh’s life and paintings and will delve into the legacy of this impactful artist. Practically unknown during his lifetime and having sold only one painting during his brief career, Van Gogh is now admired as a master of Modern Art. SCIENCE NIGHT LIVE

8 to 11:30 p.m. Saturday, March 3, at the Orlando Science Center, 777 E. Princeton St., Orlando. Among the events is a presentation at 8:15 by Winter Garden author Norine Dworkin-McDaniel, who wrote “Science of Parenthood: Thoroughly Unscientific Explanations for Utterly Baffling Parenting Situations.” Her show is a mix of stand-up, cartoon slideshow and comic storytelling. MONDAY, MARCH 5

JCCF 8TH ANNUAL GOLF TOURNAMENT

11:30 a.m. Monday, March 5, at the West Orange Country Club, 3300 West Orange Country Club Drive, Winter Garden. Enjoy a day of golf and food to benefit the Jimmy Crabtree Cancer Fund. Includes light lunch and barbecue pork dinner. A silent auction that is open to the public will take place indoors at the clubhouse. Cost is $110 per player, $400 for a preregistered foursome. CAROL BURNETT TRIVIA CONTEST

6:30 p.m. Monday, March 5, at the Southwest Library, 7255 Della Drive, Orlando. Carol Burnett broke new ground as the first female host of a TV variety show. “The Carol Burnett Show” aired from 1967-78 and became a comedy classic. WINDERMERE GARDEN CLUB CRAZY CARD PARTY

9:45 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, March 8, at Windermere Town Hall, 520 Main St. Lunch, crazy card game, silent auction, raffles galore and plenty of laughs and sociability are always the hallmarks of the Windermere Garden Club’s Annual Crazy Card Party fundraiser. WEST ORANGE REPUBLICAN WOMEN FEDERATED MEETING

11:30 a.m. Thursday, March 8, at the West Orange Country Club, 3300 West Orange Country Club Drive, Winter Garden. Special guest speaker is Michele Rigby Assad, author and former undercover officer in the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency's Directorate of Operations. She trained as a counter-terrorism specialist, and after retirement, worked in Iraq with her husband with persecuted Christians. Buffet lunch, served at noon, costs $20. SPRING LAWN TUNE-UP

The synopsis of this Mimi's Community Theater production: Alexei comes to New York looking for a job when his career as a comedian stalls, and he unwittingly becomes entangled in an FBI operation. The agents believe he is a Russian assassin in cahoots with the staff at the diner, but they couldn't be further from the truth. Jeff Dunne is the author, and Paul Hamrec is the director. MODERN ART: WHY SHOULD I LIKE IT?

Session 1 of this three-part lecture series takes an in-depth look at the “why” behind modern art’s varied art movements, Explore the many “-isms” that fall under the umbrella of modern art, such as Cubism, Pointillism, Futurism and Abstract Expressionism. Community Editor Amy Quesinberry was born at the old West Orange Memorial Hospital and raised in Winter Garden. Aside from earning her journalism degree from the University of Georgia, she hasn’t strayed too far from her hometown and her three-mile bubble.
