An added security measure is coming to four trails in Orange County — including the West Orange Trail.

The Orange County Parks and Recreation Division will be installing four new surveillance cameras on four multi-use trails in the county this week. Each trail will have a camera placed in a strategic location with the goal of deterring after-hours activity as the trails close after sunset. The cameras will be placed at the Pine Hills Trail, Little Econ Greenway, Cady Way Trail and the West Orange Trail.

Members of the county Parks Division worked alongside the Orange County Sheriff’s Office to determine suitable locations along each trail to place the cameras, which solar-powered FlashCAM systems that take still photos. The FlashCAM systems are equipped with voice command that informs a person that a photo has been taken and that they should leave the area. Each camera cost $7,000 and are portable enough to be moved to various areas.
