Winter Park enters one of their toughest games of the season in the middle of a three-game losing streak. Now as the Wildcats (1-4) approach a showdown against Evans (4-1), they’re looking to turn their season around.

That could prove a tall order with the Trojans coming off a convincing 27-14 win over East Ridge last week, leveraging a 77-yard running game by Brandon English plus a glut of turnovers.

The Wildcats have had two weeks to think about their 14-6 loss to Freedom that came after the Cats held a 6-3 lead.

Aside from a win against Edgewater and a loss to Boone, in which they scored 26 points both times, the Wildcats have had trouble putting together enough offense to take more wins.

Quarterback Asiantii Woulard has put together a balanced offense but has found some frustrating dropped passes hold back big plays from developing, relying more on short passes and running plays.

The Cats will have to see if they can break their streak on the road, traveling to Evans for a 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 12, kickoff.

Edgewater

The Eagles’ season resurrection continues with their first winning streak after a 23-12 win over Winter Springs on Oct. 5.

For Edgewater (2-3), the streak is a 180-degree turnaround after a winless start. But the Bears (1-4) kept pace with the Eagles early on, matching them through the first quarter 6-6 then taking the lead 12-9 heading into halftime.

That’s when the Eagles turned on their offense, scoring two unanswered touchdowns thanks to a 106-yard passing performance by quarterback J.B. Woodman, coupled with 76 yards by Jonathan Altman on the ground and 50 receiving yards by Waynedriko Smith.

They’ll have their work cut out for them this Friday, Oct. 12, when they take on the undefeated Dr. Phillips Panthers (6-0). The Panthers are coming off a 23-6 blowout of Boone. The game kicks off at Dr. Phillips at 7:30 p.m.
