Orange County Mayor Teresa Jacobs and the Board of County Commissioners recently recognized Winter Garden resident Sisaundra Lewis, a finalist of NBC’s “The Voice.”

Proclaiming June 3 as “Sisaundra Lewis Day” in Orange County, the commission recognized Lewis for positively representing Orange County on the national stage.

“Throughout the competition, Sisaundra Lewis demonstrated the qualities of perseverance, poise and respect for her fellow performers,” Jacobs said. “The Orange County Board of County Commissioners commends Sisaundra on all her achievements, recognizes her for her extraordinary talents and wishes her every success in her professional career.”

Born in Polk County, Lewis is one of eight children and grew up singing in her father’s church. Since then, she’s had phenomenal success as a singer, writer, producer and performer, including being “the voice” behind Cirque du Soleil’s La Nouba for 10 years.

She also has worked as Celine Dion’s vocal director and was the featured narrator in the Oscar nominated documentary, “Sustaining Life.” In September 2005, her debut single “Shout” hit the U.S. Billboard Hot Dance Club Charts in its first week and immediately climbed to No. 1. She followed up this success with the release of her full-length album in 2006.

On season six of “The Voice,” Lewis competed on Team Blake and made it to the quarterfinals of the competition.

“After being on a stage like ‘The Voice’ and having access to so many millions of people weekly, I think many doors will open up for me,” Lewis said.

“I don’t know exactly what is next, but I know God has amazing things in store for me and I’m ready to embrace that. I am so honored to be recognized by Mayor Jacobs and the Board of County Commissioners. I cannot thank my fans enough here in Orange County for all the support and motivation they have given me.”
