Lake’s dragon boat

Orlando Health formally introduced its newest dragon boat to the Central Florida community. The evening event, hosted by the Orlando Health Foundation and Shelley Lake, took place at Lake’s Winter Park art gallery, SkyLake Studios. The Orlando Health dragon boat is named for benefactor Harriett Lake. The Fourth Annual Walgreens Orlando International Dragon Boat Festival is Saturday, Oct. 15, at Downtown Disney. Getting closer

The Winter Park Breakfast Rotary Club is raising funds and awareness about the global “We’re This Close” campaign. Rotary International is “this close” to interrupting transmission of the crippling poliovirus. The countries still suffering from this disease include India, Afghanistan, Nigeria and Pakistan. Blocker honored

Orange County Public Schools Superintendent Ronald Blocker is the recipient of the inaugural FAME 2011 Administrator Advocacy Award. Blocker was chosen for his leadership and significant contributions to the promotion of effective school library programs and services.

Nursery donation

The Winter Park Day Nursery Inc. was recently the recipient of a large donation drive held by Fannie Hillman & Associates in Winter Park. The items, delivered to the day nursery by President Scott Hillman of Fannie Hillman & Associates, included many “back to school” classroom and arts and crafts supplies as well as food to stock the emergency pantry. Sixty-six pencil boxes, 1,164 pencils, 166 glue sticks, 7,180 sheets of construction paper and 144 juice boxes were just a few of the many items collected by Fannie Hillman & Associates as part of the drive. Lease signed

Maitland City Council on July 11 approved the long-term lease of the Art & History Museums’ two sites listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The lease was signed at the A & H Museums Main Garden on Aug. 25. Janelle Erin Sittema, a resident of Winter Park, graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in health science (preprofessional health studies) from Clemson University on Aug. 13.

Free balls

Starting Monday, Sept. 12, families of Maitland Soccer Club will receive certificates that can be redeemed for a free soccer ball at Maitland Tire, while supplies last. Maitland Soccer Club will receive $2 for every Uniroyal tire sold on behalf of Uniroyal and Maitland Tire.

Cuhaci & Peterson Architects LLC was recently received a contract to design a new Bag-for-Travel shop at Orlando International Airport. The firm was also recently awarded a contract to design the renovation of a Publix supermarket and adjacent retail shop space at U.S. 41 and Golden Gate Parkway in Naples. Cuhaci participated in the grand opening of the transformation project at Winn Dixie supermarket on U.S. 441 in Apopka.
