Florida Hospital, the University of Central Florida College of Medicine and Sanford-Burnham Medical Research Institute at Lake Nona participated in a summer camp experience for students at Florida Hospital Orlando, which brought in experts for the 2011 MeD Camp Student/Doc Roundtable in hopes of giving aspiring young medical professionals access to these areas.

Junior Achievement of Central Florida recently teamed up with Workforce Central Florida’s STEM Day at the Florida Citrus Sports Foundation’s Summer Camp to teach students about careers in science, technology, engineering and math. NASCAR legends Rusty Wallace, Michael Waltrip and Juan Pablo Montoya took time to race remote control cars with kids as part of a special announcement and to drive awareness about umbilical cord blood banking and transplantation at the Walt Disney Pavilion at Florida Hospital for Children. Susanne Shepherdson, from Maitland, a senior history and entrepreneurship small business management major, was named to the Dean’s List at Huntington University.

The Winter Park Health Foundation has awarded the Winter Park Chamber of Commerce a three-year, $220,745 grant to develop and launch Work Well Winter Park, designed to inspire workplace wellness in local businesses.

WUCF TV, a partnership of the University of Central Florida and Brevard Community College, is Central Florida’s new home for the full PBS schedule. Bright House Networks carries WUCF TV on digital cable channel 1 in standard definition and channel 1001 in high definition. Visit wucftv.org

The Enzian, the recent winning recipient of the United Arts of Central Florida Arts Matter grant contest, announced funds will be applied toward the purchase of a new outdoor screen. Ways to give back

Cornerstone Hospice is experiencing an increase in the number of veterans that are receiving its hospice services. If you are a veteran and are interested in spending quality time with terminally ill veterans, then they would like you on their team. Contact [email protected] or call 407-304-2604.

Palmano’s Café, Coffee and Wine Bar, 333 S. Park Ave., announced that throughout the summer, half its bottled water proceeds will benefit The Morning Star School.

For the 10th consecutive year, Progress Energy Foundation contributed $50,000 to the Foundation for Orange County Public Schools for equipment and supplies related to math, science and energy education projects.

Brownstone Tampa Partners, LLC announced that it has acquired the former Trump Tower Tampa site and adjacent office building, known as the CapTrust Building, in downtown Tampa. Brownstone Tampa Partners is an investment partnership of Winter Park-based O, R&L Facility Services and Owens Realty Network and Community Reinvestment Partners II, LP.

Cuhaci & Peterson Architects LLC, based in Orlando’s Baldwin Park, was recently awarded contracts to remodel three Winn-Dixie Supermarkets.

Beazer Homes reports it sold 12 homes for a dollar volume of more than $4 million over the past six weeks at Legacy, the gated luxury community Beazer Homes is developing on Lake Jessamine.

NAI Realvest recently negotiated a new lease of 2,320 square feet of office space at Lake Mary Professional Campus, the 10-building office condominium development located at the intersection of Interstate 4 and Lake Mary Boulevard.

The YMCA of Central Florida opened its doors to the community more than six million times in 2010. Overall, more than 230,000 kids, families and individuals were impacted by the YMCA of Central Florida in 2010. Four YMCA Family Centers were upgraded and one completed its capital campaign. These projects represent a $6.1 million investment.

Rollins College recently announced the selection of award-winning Baker Barrios Architects Inc. to manage the planning, architecture, interior design and landscape architecture for the school’s soon-to-be-built Alfond Inn at Rollins. Atlanta-based Hardin Construction has been named general contractor for the project.

Centro Properties Group (ASX:CNP) announced an 887-square-foot lease has been executed with Jackson Hewitt Tax Services at Colonial Marketplace. Drew Forness of Forness Properties, Winter Park, represented Jackson Hewitt Tax Services.
