The David Maus Volkswagen North (Lee Road) service department recently collected 770 non-perishable food items. About half of the collected items were split into 14 laundry baskets along with a roasting pan and $20 gift certificate to purchase a turkey. The 14 baskets were donated to the Orlando Union Rescue Mission. The remaining cans were donated to Second Harvest Food Bank.

United Arts of Central Florida is excited to announce the Fiscal Year 2011 Organizational Project Grants, awarding $227,640 to 35 arts and cultural organizations. Awards in Maitland: $10,000 to the Holocaust Memorial Resource and Education Center of Florida and $6,660 to the Performing Arts of Maitland. Awards in Winter Park: $10,000 to Albin Polasek Museum and Sculpture Gardens, $8,400 to The Center for Contemporary Dance, $10,000 to The Florida Symphony Youth Orchestra, $4,820 to The Messiah Choral Society, $6,460 to The Winter Park Historical Association and $8,400 to The Winter Park Playhouse.

Trinity Preparatory School’s debate team is the only school in Florida selected as a “Top 32” team in a highly competitive international debate competition. By advancing to this next round of the 10th annual Bickel & Brewer/New York University International Public Policy Forum (IPPF), the students remain eligible to win the $10,000 grand prize and an all-expenses-paid trip to the finals competition in New York City in April 2011. A group of students at Park Maitland School recently rolled up their sleeves and planted their own “grow boxes” full of vegetables to learn about healthy eating. This unique, hands-on experience is just one activity that fifth and sixth grade students get to do as part of the Healthy 100 Kids program through Florida Hospital. Visit www.healthy100.org

As part of a successful team effort, Maitland Soccer Club has received more than $1,350 in both funds and equipment from Maitland Tire and Uniroyal Tire. Partnering with its tire dealers, Uniroyal has donated nearly $13 million in funds and equipment, including over 1 million soccer balls, since 2000.

Bank of America recently unveiled $450,000 in funding — and $3.15 million to date — in Orlando through its Neighborhood Excellence Initiative, which is designed to stimulate and sustain the local economy in Orlando and in communities across the country. Jewish Family Services of Greater Orlando received $200,000 and Peter Schreyer, of Winter Park, will direct his $5,000 grant to Crealde School of Art, where he is a professor.

All guests enjoyed a 10 percent discount on the entire store filled with French imported products including tableware, linen, French country furniture, home decor, and fine grocery items.
