COPS CORNER 01.21.16

It was not suspects of drug possession or DUI who were most shocking this week, but of shoplifting and a strange restroom occurrence.

OAKLAND

JAN. 6

16000 block of West Colonial Drive. Drug possession. An officer answered a call about a woman passed out in a car around 3:43 p.m. The officer woke her and asked about fender damage, which she said had been from the prior day but she was fine. When asked whether she was drinking, she said she was not because of rehab, which she said was for pills and included probation. She said she had taken an Oxycodone in the morning and then offered a prescription bottle, which did not match the pills inside. The driver said a friend had given her pills when she had run out. Officers confirmed she was on probation for possessing a controlled substance, so they arrested her. A search led to finding 25 pills of four varieties and a crack pipe.

OCOEE

JAN. 1

300 block of Hormigas Street. Drunken driving. An officer saw a car speed past southbound on Clarke Road while swerving, almost hitting another car. The officer activated emergency lights, but the driver drove the whole way home. The driver first refused sobriety tests but then complied, failing to follow a visual stimulus. For the walk-and-turn, the suspect repeatedly said he understood instructions but then asked again, constituting a refusal. The officer arrested the suspect on a DUI charge. The suspect refused a breath test.

JAN. 6

10000 block of West Colonial Drive. Theft. At 6:40 p.m., a big-box store employee told police a woman was bathing naked in a sink. The worker then showed an officer video of the woman putting on clothes for sale without paying for them all. She said she had told the cashier to charge her for her suit and it was not her fault the cashier did not charge it all. She removed unpaid $12.44 pants on request but then spit on them on the floor. The officer arrested her on a petit theft charge.
