Jan. 23, 15122 block of W. Colonial Drive: Around 4 p.m., an officer responded to a call in reference to an intoxicated male. Upon arrival, the officer made contact with the male in question, who had in his possession four empty cans of Natural Ice beer and two unopened ones. The officer observed visible signs of intoxication, including red, watery eyes and a lack of balance. The intoxicated male also repeatedly stated he had a lot of alcohol to drink. The officer learned from the complainant that the intoxicated male had caused a disturbance by yelling and screaming inside the leasing office and had publicly urinated on the side of the building. The intoxicated male was arrested for disorderly conduct.
Jan. 22, 1170 block of E. Plant St: Around 2:17 a.m., an officer learned of a theft that had occurred at the Veterans of Foreign Wars location. The officer was informed a known suspect had stolen a stack of cash valued at $87 from her office desk. The male suspect had been frequenting the establishment for four to five days, even though he was not a member. The suspected thief took advantage when the complainant went outside to relocate her car. When the complainant returned to her office, she noticed the cash was gone.
The complainant then confronted the suspected thief, asking him to empty his pockets. He only emptied one pocket. When urged to empty the remaining pocket, the suspected thief ran off. The suspected thief's mother soon arrived, claiming her son had called her to come pick him up. The mother positively identified him in security footage. On Jan. 26, the officer discovered the thief had been incarcerated for an unrelated drug offense. The officer filed an electronic arrest affidavit in connection with the incident on Jan. 22.
Jan. 29, Ocoee Apopka Road: Around 12:44 a.m., a law enforcement officer parked facing east on Franklin Street in the striped safety zone on patrol when he witnessed a silver Nissan Versa traveling west on Franklin Street with no headlights. The Nissan Versa suddenly swerved out of its lane, over a bicycle lane and into the safety zone, nearly colliding with the officer’s patrol vehicle. The officer conducted a traffic stop, but upon request of the female driver’s vehicle registration, the officer was handed expired insurance information. The officer informed her of the incorrect documentation he’d been handed, but the driver confidently insisted it was her registration.
During a brief conversation about where the driver was headed, the officer noticed a strong odor of alcoholic beverage. When questioned, the driver said she had consumed one shot of Hennessy at a friend’s house. He had her perform field sobriety exercises to test for possible intoxication, which she conducted while laughing giddily. Her lack of coordination failed to disprove the officer’s suspicion of intoxication, and she was placed under arrest. While being read her Miranda rights, she became hostile and began cursing, however, once she was placed inside the patrol vehicle her mood changed, and she began joking again.
