Cedar Key Court. Battery: At about 9:30 p.m., two officers on traffic patrol were approached by a 68-year-old man with visible physical injuries. The man informed the officers he had been involved in a physical fight with his son-in-law at his residence, according to a police report. The elderly man stated he was asleep when he heard his grandson making loud noises and the elderly man came to verbally correct the child when his son-in-law, 29, began to argue with him. According to the report, the son-in-law pushed the elderly man against a wall and punched him in the head, which caused bleeding. The elderly man also fell backward and hit his arm on the side of a door, which caused the skin to split open and bleed. The officers then questioned the son-in-law, who stated the elderly man first pushed him and he then pushed him back. He said the elderly man’s injuries happened when he fell down. The son-in-law’s wife told officers neither she or the children witnessed the incident. She declined to write a statement. The elderly man was transported to a hospital to seek medical attention. DCF was contacted due to the children present in the home. The son-in-law was arrested and charged with battery on a person over 65 years of age or older.

15000 block of West Colonial Drive. 1st-degree grand theft: At midnight, an officer spotted a blue BMW parked near a motel and performed a license-plate check due to a known history of stolen vehicles in that location, according to a police report. The plate check revealed the BMW had been reported stolen from Lake County, and the officer questioned the woman residing in the unit behind which the BMW was located. The woman told the officer the BMW was not hers and asked, “Why does everyone leave their stolen cars behind my house?” The officer then noticed the name on a prescription bottle in the vehicle's center console matched the woman’s given name. When confronted, the woman said she uses the car but it belonged to a man she was seeing. The man’s name did not match the registered owner of the vehicle. When the officer contacted the registered vehicle owner, the owner said the car was stolen by a woman who came to look at it because it was for sale but had switched the key fob on his key chain when he wasn’t looking. The woman was placed under arrest and charged with 1st-degree grand theft and possession of methamphetamine.
