OAKLAND

MARCH 27

500 block of John's Landing Way. Burglary. An officer responded at about 6:10 p.m. to a vehicle burglary call. Despite the trunk being locked, two tablets collectively worth about $1,400 were missing, the vehicle owner said. She said it was possible someone had pulled the trunk release from the driver's seat. Officers found four sets of latent fingerprints: one from the driver's door and three along the bottom of the trunk hatch. Charges are pending, but no suspect was identified at the time of the incident.

MARCH 30

South Tubb Street and West Colonial Drive. Hit-and-run. At 9:17 a.m., officers converged on a scene of a felled pedestrian crosswalk pole at the southeast corner of the intersection. A vehicle had completely detached the pole and wires from their place in the sidewalk and left a red paint transfer. Officers found a fog light cover in the vicinity, which led to identification of the car as a 2013-15 Ford Fusion. Officials believe a driver turning left from West Colonial Drive to South Tubbs Street was responsible and hit the pole with its front-right bumper. Charges are pending, but no suspect was identified at the time of the incident.

MARCH 27

Vintage Village Lane. Loitering. An officer discovered a male deemed suspicious at 1:43 a.m. near a shopping hub. The suspect had been walking south with a backpack toward West Colonial Drive, emerging from behind businesses – all closed. He fled when the officer activated lights and asked him to halt several times. The officer detained him and heard him say he had fled because of an active warrant for his arrest. The suspect said he had been walking home since getting off the bus after working at an International Drive restaurant. The manager told police the suspect had left work at 11 p.m. The suspect confessed to smoking marijuana before work and previous tags of buildings under the name Smash. The officer confirmed an active warrant on criminal mischief charges and added charges of loitering or prowling and resisting an officer. Security trespassed the suspect from the shopping hub.

Silver Star Road and Orange Avenue. Drug possession. At 8:44 p.m., an officer aided another who was attempting to stop a vehicle from which the driver threw a small baggie – later testing positive for cocaine – from the passenger window. A third officer detained and arrested the driver before a fourth searched the driver. The driver tried to kick away his right shoe to hide a small baggie of marijuana. Officers found marijuana leaves, cocaine, cigarillo packages, a cigar cutter and burnt doobies scattered about the car. Charges against the driver were possession of drugs, cocaine and marijuana; evidence tampering; and resisting an officer.

MARCH 28

10000 block of West Colonial Drive. Theft. A man purchased syringes around 2:26 p.m. from a big box store but then put in his bag a Bluetooth speaker he earlier had hidden on shelves. Security apprehended him, so he admitted to a theft charge and returned the $49.88 speaker. A search of the man revealed a tiny box in his pocket with his name on it. Inside were pieces of cotton and a hydromorphone pill, which can be shot into the body via syringe. Officers arrested him on a charge of possessing this drug.
