WINTER GARDEN
Oct. 12, 13000 block of Harbor Shore Lane: At approximately 6:40 a.m., dispatch received a call from someone who witnessed a man enter a neighbor’s garage and steal a musical instrument. An officer dispatched to the scene observed a man exiting the subdivision on a bike who matched the description of the suspect the caller provided. The officer questioned the man and repeatedly instructed him to get on the ground, but the man refused. The suspect was then secured in handcuffs, and the officer checked his backpack and noticed a black guitar case in his possession. The homeowners arrived shortly after and positively identified both the bike and the acoustic guitar and black case as their belongings. While detained in a room at the department, the man was seen removing $40 from his shoe and placing it in his crotch area. A later search produced $100 and $20 bill from his shoe as well.
Oct. 9, East Miller Street: At approximately 9:45 a.m., an officer conducted an investigation into a vehicular crash with property damage. The officer was informed by a witness that a car traveling northbound on Main Street tried making a U-turn while turning west on Miller Street had lost control. The driver of the car, according to the witness, slid into a residential yard, crashed into a home, and then reversed out of the yard and fled the scene of the crash. The crash resulted in a broken sprinkler system and chipped brick on the home. Officers then conducted an area check and located a vehicle on Boyd Street with the airbags deployed and damage to the front that also matched the witness’s description. The driver of the car first stated his girlfriend had been driving the car, but he later changed his story and said he'd been driving the car and fled because he was scared of going to jail for crashing into a house. The man was asked to submit to field sobriety exercises, but the man refused and was arrested.
OCOEE
Oct. 20, 700 block of Roper Parkway: At around 2 a.m., a man exiting a business observed a man jumping over a fence into a business and reported his observation to police. The man informed the officer he had had just finished his shift when he noticed the suspect jumping the fence. Officers dispatched to the location found a suspect matching the caller’s description. The business was found to have four vehicles that had been tampered with and were missing batteries worth $150 each. When asked what he was doing on the property, the suspect said he “was just looking for somewhere to sleep after a long night of drinking” but couldn’t remember how he got there. The suspect then modified his story and said he had gone drinking with two friends and they jumped the fence but did not touch any of the vehicles. The suspect was charged with four counts of burglary, criminal mischief, burglary of a structure and third-degree grand theft.
OAKLAND
Oct. 20, Oakland Avenue: An officer was dispatched to the area of West Colonial Drive and Oakland Avenue in reference to a call about an aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. According to the caller, who was driving with his wife and 9-month-old son in the back seat, the driver of a red Focus began tailgating the family’s car. The male driver of the red Focus then passed their car and displayed his middle finger and entered the same lane again. However, once ahead, the red Focus braked all of a sudden multiple times. The caller’s wife then rolled down the window and told the driver they had a baby in the car. In response, the driver of the red focus allegedly pointed a handgun at the wife for “almost two minutes" before speeding up and taking the southbound Turnpike entrance off West Colonial Drive. Using video of the incident, police located the driver at his residence and had him arrested.
WINDERMERE
Oct. 22, 100 block of Wurst Road: At approximately 2:25 a.m., an Ocoee police officer contacted Windermere police to advise of a vehicle driving very closely behind them with the headlights off. The Ocoee police officer made contact with the woman, who he realized exhibited physical signs of alcohol impairment and she was under 21. A second officer arrived and questioned the woman, who seemed confused, according to a police report. The woman stated she was 20 years old and was coming from a bar called El Tequila. She added she was driving to Ocoee to pick up her kids and seemed unsure of how many drinks she’d consumed. The driver submitted to sobriety exercises but performed them incorrectly and was arrested.
