Nov. 6, Winter Garden Vineland Road: At 4:04 a.m., an officer noticed a female driver slumped over in her seat against the car door. Once the officer made a left-hand turn, he noticed the vehicle remained at the intersection even though once the signal had turned green. He turned around and positioned his car behind the vehicle and observed the lights cycle through twice, and yet the vehicle still did not move. When the officer walked to the driver's window, he noticed both the driver and passenger were passed out. After a "sternum rub," performed by the officer and an assisting officer, both females awoke. When the officer asked the driver where she was, she confidently stated Tampa. When informed she was not in Tampa, she rescinded her answer and said, "I'm sorry, Clermont." When informed she was wrong again and asked where she came from, she said she believed Orlando, but was not sure as she was just following her GPS. While answering the questions the driver accidentally pressed the horn twice before she was asked to take a field sobriety test. The driver failed the sobriety exercises and was arrested.
Nov. 4, 9409 block of W. Colonial Drive: At 8: 04 p.m., a man was thwarted from stealing merchandise from a JC Penney. A store employee witnessed the man try on Nike shoes and place his old shoes in the shoe box while keeping the new Nike shoes on as he passed all points of sale and exited the store. The JC Penney employee stopped him and asked him to return to the store. The man confessed to stealing the shoes once an officer arrived, and he admitted he also had intentions to steal a bag full of clothes, but decided against it and left the bag inside the store. Upon conducting a search, the officer also found a small bag containing five grams of meth inside his wallet. When asked how the meth came to find itself inside his wallet, the man changed his story twice before admitting to purchasing the drug earlier in the day. The attempted thief was arrested.
Nov. 5, 17100 block W. Colonial Drive: At 2:28 a.m., police dispatch received numerous calls about a black Mazda driving recklessly with their headlights off, swerving in and out of lanes without signaling and, at one point, driving eastbound in the westbound lanes. Once an officer found the vehicle in question and performed a traffic stop, the male driver was asked where he was. The driver replied he did not know. When asked to step outside the vehicle, the driver struggled, nearly falling on the ground before using the car door to keep balance. Upon initial questioning, the male driver responded he had "two Coronas," then changed his answer when asked again to "three beers." When the officer asked what time it was, the driver said he had no idea. After several failed attempts to correctly perform field sobriety exercises, the driver was arrested for driving under intoxication.
