A Winter Garden woman allegedly attempted to steal fruits and vegetables and an Ocoee man was accused of trying to steal a phone charger.

WINTER GARDEN 

March 27, 13720 block of West Colonial Drive: Around 1:20 p.m., an officer conducting patrol on West Colonial Drive noticed a vehicle with only one working brake light. The officer stopped the car and learned the male driver only had his insurance papers and that his driver’s license had been suspended multiple times. During the conversation, the officer recognized the odor of marijuana emanating from the interior of the vehicle and asked the driver if there was anything illegal in his car. The driver said no. A search of the vehicle produced negative results, however, the officer then asked the driver if there was anything in his crotch area. The driver’s response is redacted from the arrest report, however, the officer then retrieved two bags of marijuana weighing 33.5 grams.

March 31, 624 block of S. Dillard Street: Around 10:30 a.m., an officer responded to a supermarket in reference to a suspected shoplifting in progress. Upon arrival, the officer was informed by a store manager that a woman was seen concealing items in her purse while shopping. The manager stated he also recognized the woman from past encounters where she had also stolen items. During this instance, the woman reportedly paid for the items in her shopping cart, but not the ones in her purse. When confronted in the parking lot, the manager found various fruits and vegetables hidden in the woman's purse amounting to $6.70. The woman was placed under arrest and charged with petit theft.

OCOEE 

April 1, 10500 block of W. Colonial Drive: Around 9 p.m., an officer responded to a Walmart due to complaints of a shoplifter. The officer was informed by a Walmart asset protection officer that a man had been caught trying to steal a portable phone charger valued at $29.88. The man reportedly took the item from the electronics department, headed to the grocery department, removed the packaging from the charger and concealed it before pretending to make a purchase at the self-checkout register and exiting the store. The man was arrested and charged with retail theft and resisting an officer without violence.

OAKLAND 

April 2, 15992 block of W. Colonial Drive: Around 3 a.m., a patrol officer noticed a vehicle speeding at 62 mph in 45-mph speed zone and conducting a traffic stop. Upon making contact with the vehicle’s four occupants, the officer detected the odor of cannabis and conducted a search of the vehicle which produced a partially smoked cigarillo, pieces of a cut cigar and small baggy. The female passenger stated the cannabis and drug paraphernalia belonged to her. The passenger was issued a notice to appear in court for possession of cannabis and drug paraphernalia.
