May 9, 13698 block of West Colonial Drive. Around 1 a.m., officers were dispatched to a gas station regarding a suspicious man who was bothering the station’s customers. The man was found in the middle of the road impeding traffic exiting a nearby shopping plaza. Upon making contact with the man, officers discovered the man was unable to form coherent sentences and repeatedly slurred his words while staggering around with alcoholic breath. The man allegedly grew angry upon seeing the presence of the officers and began screaming and rambling. The man, in his fury, smashed his cell phone on the ground repeatedly, took it apart and began chucking the pieces at cars traveling on Winter Garden Vineland Road. The man hit the side of an oncoming car and was arrested for his violent behavior.
May 11, 3385 block of Daniels Road. Around 3 p.m., a law-enforcement officer was dispatched to a department store in reference to a shoplifting caught on security cameras. The male shoplifter allegedly went to the men’s department and selected 60 items of clothing before walking in a dressing room. The man exited the dressing room with 20 of the 60 items and returned the 20 items to the men’s department before proceeding to the children department. There, the man selected four articles of clothing before returning to the men’s department and selecting five more articles of clothing. A store employee informed the officer the man then concealed the remaining articles of clothing in a baby stroller and exited the store without paying for the concealed merchandise. In total, 48 articles of clothing were recovered totaling $1,487.44.
May 12, 1032 block of Mildred Dixon Way. Around 3 p.m., officers arrested a man who had an active Orange County warrant for trafficking of heroin. During a search of the man’s belongings, officers found a clear bag containing cannabis in the man’s left pocket along with a large wad of cash. The cash amounted to $10,500.71.
May 13, 146 block of West Plant Street. Around 10 p.m., an officer responded to a bar in reference to a complaint about a man who was giving a group of girls some trouble. According to witnesses who spoke with the officer, the man and his acquaintance had tried flirting with a group of women at the bar, however, when the women firmly rejected both men, the men started causing a disturbance. One of the men allegedly started yelling profanities and the bartender handed him a bill so he could leave the premises. The man then chucked the bill tray at one of the women, hitting the chair she sat on. The man was arrested for disorderly conduct.
May 11, 2730 block of Coventry Lane. Around 1 a.m., an officer performing a routine area check of the Coventry neighborhood observed a parked car within a park that had already closed. Upon approaching the vehicle, the driver rolled down the window and a fog of smoke came billowing out that smelled like cannabis. The officer also saw cannabis in the open glove compartment. The officer asked the car’s two occupants if there were any guns, drugs or knives inside the car, to which they replied there was not. Both occupants were then ordered to exit the vehicle so the officer could search the car. The officer found two blunts in the car, as well as a 9mm handgun with a loaded magazine and a black sock containing a glass jar that held 14.5 grams of cannabis. The driver was arrested and charged with concealed carry of a firearm and possession of cannabis.
May 13, 10500 block of West Colonial Drive: Around 6:30 p.m., an officer was dispatched to a department store in reference to a suspected retail theft. Upon arrival, the officer was informed two females had been seen selecting merchandise in the cosmetics department. The women allegedly grabbed the cosmetic items, headed to the men’s department, and concealed some of the items in their respective purses. The women then headed to the sporting goods department and concealed the rest of the items before exiting the store without paying for any of the items. One of the women told the officer her friend “got her to steal the items” and that she "does not have a criminal record and has never stolen anything before.” The second women, upon being questioned by another officer, said: “It's obvious what happened, we (expletive) up.” The items concealed in the women’s purses amounted to a total of $513.88.
