July 10, Daniels Landing Circle. Around 10:40 p.m., an officer saw a car traveling northbound on County Road 535 tailgating another vehicle. According to the report, the car was about four feet away from the vehicle. The officer began to follow the car and ran his tag through dispatch. Dispatch confirmed the tag was expired and the officer conducted a traffic stop. As soon as the car stopped, the police officer observed two Red’s ‘Wicked’ Apple Ale beer cans be discarded from the vehicle. One fell out of the driver door once the driver opened the door and a second was thrown out through the front passenger window. Once the officer approached the male driver, the driver handed the officer a uniform traffic citation for driving while his license was suspended just four hours prior. However, the police officer noticed the driver displayed signs of intoxication and asked to submit to a field sobriety exercise. The driver asked if the officer could just let them go if had his girlfriend drive. The driver, who said his father was also a police officer, did not perform the exercises according to the instructions. The driver was arrested.
July 14, 4200 block of Winter Garden Vineland Road. An officer was dispatched to a gas station around midnight in reference to a call about a suspicious person. Upon arrival, the officer was informed by the complainant that there was a man asking everyone for money who had been repeatedly asked to leave the premises. The man had refused and gas station employees said they wanted the man trespassed. The law-enforcement officer warned the man he needed to leave or he would be arrested. The man refused to leave again, sharing that he had nowhere else to and wanted to go to jail. The man was arrested.
July 20, 1720 block of Silver Star Road. At approximately 5 p.m., an officer responded to a grocery store in reference to a call about a shoplifting. The officer was informed by loss prevention that a man had been seen placing items from the seafood and pasta departments into an empty store bag. The man was then seen attempting to leave the store without paying for the items, which included shrimp, sockeye fillet, spicy tuna roll and cream cheese rolls valued at $43.90. When questioned, the man said he meant to pay for the item but forgot to do it. The man was placed under arrest and charged with petit theft.
July 10, 17469 block of West Colonial Drive. Around 4:30 p.m., an officer on patrol observed a pickup truck stopped at the intersection of Oakland Avenue and State Road 438 make a U-turn on Oakland Avenue and again stop at the intersection. The officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop as the driver was impeding traffic. The officer exited the vehicle and approached the driver, requesting the male driver to pull forward to somewhere safe when the light turns green. As the officer walked away, however, the driver yelled out, ‘You not going to get away with this lady!’ When the signal turned green the driver made a left turn onto Colonial Drive and then made another U-turn at and stopped at an intersection again. The officer requested backup. Upon approach, the driver cursed at the officer, accusing the officer of knowing how to turn a Christian human. He then accused the officer of not being Christian and called her profanities. The driver locked himself in his car and called 911 to complain about the traffic stop. The driver was subsequently arrested.
July 7, West 7th Ave. Around 4:30 p.m., an on patrol in the area of Fernwood Park saw two women walk past his police car holding Coors beer cans, despite the signs located within the park that inform passers-by of the illegality regarding alcohol possession when inside the park. The police officer then exited the vehicle and asked the women their age. Both women said they were 19. One woman provided ID but the other woman gave a birth date that would have made her 21 years old. The woman then admitted she lied about her age, and said she was actually 17. She was arrested for possession of alcohol and for providing false information to a law enforcement officer.
