WINTER GARDEN

July 17, West Miller Street. At around 11:20 a.m., a woman arriving home was notified by her yard maintenance workers of a suspicious car on her driveway. The workers pointed to the black vehicle backing out of her driveway as the vehicle sped past her. Once she entered her home she noticed a variety of her personal items missing. The workers provided police with descriptions of the vehicle, the burglary suspects and a tag number, which allowed surrounding officers to locate the black vehicle. The yard workers positively identified the man and woman as the burglary suspects. During the arrest, multiple pieces of jewelry were located inside the female suspect’s purse. Police also found an iMac computer, a wedding ring and band, small DVD player, iPad and jewelry box within the vehicle.  The homeowner was able to identify many of the items as hers. Some items, however, belonged to a nearby homeowner who had also been burglarized earlier in the day. Both suspects were charged with criminal mischief, burglary of a dwelling and grand theft.

July 21, 13105 block of West Colonial Drive. At approximately 8:13 p.m., an officer conducted a tag check on a Mustang that turned out to be reported stolen. When asked for their names, the male passenger provided a name that dispatch could not locate his record. The male passenger stated that was likely because he is from Cuba. The passenger then informed the officer that the car belonged to him but was registered to his grandma and was unsure why it was reported stolen. To get his identity, the officer asked the male passenger to place his finger on a fingerprint reader, but the male passenger refused. When police contacted the passenger's grandma, the grandma informed dispatch that her grandson said he would bring the car back but never did. She then reported it stolen. It was later discovered the male passenger was also a convicted felon. The female driver denied knowing the car was reported stolen. Located inside the vehicle, police found an ammo magazine with bullets, a syringe, identification documents for five other individuals and a large knife.

July 22, 162 block of North Clarke Road. At approximately 2:12 a.m., several officers responded to a call about a woman calling 911 who was cursing and screaming but kept hanging up the phone on the police dispatchers. One officer located a blue Honda Civic near the front of the entrance to Lake Olympia Plaza. The officer approached the vehicle’s occupants and found a woman sitting in the driver’s seat with the keys in the ignition and the vehicle running. The woman explained to the officer that she did not dial 911 and that they had the wrong person, however, the man in the passenger seat said she indeed dialed 911. The woman then stated she did call 911 because her husband wanted to drive because he thought he was more sober than her. Officers asked her to exit the car multiple times, but she refused. When asked if she had been drinking, the woman grew hostile and kept stating she is a billionaire and that she would sue the officer. After performing sobriety exercises poorly, the woman said, “This is stupid, I know I’m not drunk.” The woman was arrested and transported to a DUI testing center where she called everyone ‘d––– munchers.’ The woman provided two breath samples of 0.88 and 0.90.

July 22, 10500 block of West Colonial Drive. At approximately 11:43 a.m., officers were given reports of a retail theft in progress at a large department store. Officer learned that a woman had been caught on the store’s video surveillance selecting 16 different cosmetic items and concealing them in her purse. The woman then proceeded to the self-checkout area and paid $107.18 worth of merchandise and exited the store. The woman was stopped by an officer and questioned. The woman apologized for stealing the makeup products, which amounted $145.43, and admitted she stolen makeup from the store two weeks ago as well. The woman was charged with petit theft. 

OAKLAND

July 17, Remington Road. Around 5:20 p.m., a law-enforcement officer stopped a car they noticed driving in an abnormal pattern. The officer had the male driver perform field sobriety exercises. The driver performed the exercises poorly, stumbling toward the roadway where there was heavy traffic multiple times and stopping in the middle of an exercise to speak with the officers present. Once the driver was transported to a DUI testing facility, he provided two breath samples resulting in readings of 0.353 and 0.350. The driver was charged with a DUI.
