WINTER GARDEN

August 1, 13750 block of West Colonial Drive. At approximately 2:10 p.m., an officer received a call about an attempted shoplifting that had occurred at a supermarket. According to store employees, a woman had tried stealing three subs from the store’s deli. The woman had been seen grabbing the subs, placing them next to her purse inside her shopping cart and subsequently concealing them in her purse once she went down another aisle. The woman then placed more items in her shopping cart and headed to a cash register but did not have enough money to pay for the items in her cart and attempted to leave the store without paying for them. A store manager then stopped the woman as she tried to exit and escorted her back inside. It was discovered the woman had been trespassed from the store in 2008. The total value of the subs the woman tried to steal amounted to $22.76.

OCOEE

August 8, 10500 block of West Colonial Drive. Around 6 p.m., an officer responded to a department store in reference to a complaint about a retail theft. Upon arrival, the officer was informed a woman had been seen in the sporting goods department selecting a pocket knife which she had hidden in her pocket. The woman picked up a BB gun and used the pocket knife to open the packaging. She then hid both the knife and BB gun in her pocket and attempted to leave without paying for the merchandise. At the exit, she was stopped by a store associate who asked for a receipt. The woman was not able to produce a receipt and she walked back into the store and made her way into the garden department. The woman then exited the store but was stopped by a police officer and questioned. The woman said she knows stealing is wrong but she struggles to avoid shoplifting. The total value of the items stolen and recovered was $82.35. 

OAKLAND

August 5, Stone Creek Court. At approximately 8:30 a.m., a law-enforcement officer observed a blue Dodge Ram with highly tinted windows. Suspecting the windows were over the state-mandated limit of 28%, the officer conducted a traffic stop. The officer tested the windows and realized the windows had a 25% tint, which is in compliance with the limit. However, the driver did not have a license on his person, only a copy of his ID from Guatemala. The driver informed a second officer that he had been arrested years ago for a DUI and had no driver license due to legal paperwork. Dispatch advised the officer that the driver had an arrest warrant out of Orange County and the man was arrested.

WINDERMERE

August 4, East Sixth Avenue. At approximately 2:20 a.m., a police officer conducting speed enforcement in the area of Conroy Windermere Road witnessed the driver of a Jeep traveling at 65 mph in a 30-mph speed zone. The officer began following the Jeep and observed the Jeep swerving in and out of its lane of travel with jerky movements. The officer conducted a traffic stop and recognized the smell of alcohol on the driver’s breath. When asked if he had had anything to drink, the man stated he consumed a shot of whiskey and a couple of other drinks but couldn’t remember where he was coming from. After a few moments, the driver stated “Sahara,” which is a restaurant and bar. The officer then had the driver conduct field sobriety exercises to gauge his level of intoxication. The driver performed poorly and was transported to a DUI testing center where he provided breath samples indicating a breath alcohol level of 0.087 and 0.082.
