Ben Witherspoon has announced his decision to step down from his position as head coach of the boys basketball team at Dr. Phillips High School.

During his time at Dr. Phillips, Witherspoon led his team to win two district championships, two regional championships and guided them through the journey to win the first state championship in school's history in 2021. He leaves having one player be part of the McDonald's All American, four players signed to major Division I universities and 10 players pursuing basketball at the collegiate level.

"I would like to thank the administration at Dr. Phillips HS for giving me the opportunity," he wrote on Twitter. "Thank you to all of the families that have been in the program for their trust, support, and sacrifice. And most importantly, thank you to our players for their commitment to each other, me, their school, and the program."

He continued his statement by saying: "But, it's time for my next challenge. I have notified the school and our players that I am resigning from Dr. Phillips High School to pursue opportunities at higher levels."
