UCF student earns scholarship

The National AIDS Memorial Grove has awarded six outstanding undergraduate students each with a Pedro Zamora Young Leaders Scholarship for their commitment to active roles of public service and leadership in the fight against HIV/AIDS. One of the six scholarship recipients is Abdon Orrostieta a two-year scholarship recipient and junior at the University of Central Florida. He volunteers with Latino Salud, a nonprofit community- and minority-based HIV agency that provides HIV rapid testing and linkage services making Ryan White support and other medical services accessible to HIV-positive individuals. 

Local residents make Baylor dean’s list

More than 3,500 Baylor University students were named to the Dean's Academic Honor Roll for the 2015 fall semester. To be named to the dean's list, a student must be an undergraduate with a minimum grade-point average of 3.7, while enrolled in a minimum of 12 semester hours. Among them were Maitland resident Hamilton K. Bright of College of Arts and Sciences and Winter Park resident Stephen Jack Reiman of the Hankamer School of Business.

St. Margaret Mary celebrates National Catholic Schools Week

St. Margaret Mary Catholic Schools is excited to celebrate National Catholic Schools Week Feb. 1-5, with this year’s theme being Communities of Faith, Knowledge and Service. Here are some of the activities planned for the week: Monday – Morning Prayer for Civic Leaders, College/High School Shirt Day, food drive to benefit Catholic Charities; Tuesday – Drop Everything and Read Time, Religion Quiz Bowl in Parish Hall; Wednesday – Book Fair Preview, Middle School Brain Bowl, Spirit Shirt Day;

Local Furman students make dean’s list

Furman University recently announced its dean's list for the 2015 fall semester. The list is composed of full-time undergraduate students who earn a grade point average of 3.4 or higher on a four-point system. The list included Winter Park residents Hannah Lyden and Allison Powell, as well as Maitland resident Madeline Doten.

Winter Parker makes dean’s list

The University of Wisconsin-Madison has recognized students named to the dean's list for the fall semester of the 2015-2016 academic year. Students who achieve at a high level academically are recognized by the dean of their school or college at the close of each semester. To be eligible for the Dean's List, students must complete a minimum of 12 graded degree credits in that semester. The most recent dean’s list included Winter Park resident Brianna Steger of the College of Letters and Science.
