The Maitland Art Center opened its doors to the public for free on Saturday, June 5 to showcase its instructors, artists and to give prospective students a taste of the classes offered there. The open house also gave the public a chance to meet Andrea Bailey, the new executive director and CEO of the Maitland Art and History Association.

Various themed art studios peppered the center and offered the public a chance to mingle with instructors and students. All kinds of media was presented — sculpture, glass, jewelry fabrication, drawing, painting and pottery.

Student Kathy Hinkle of Apopka worked on a sculpture of her grandson's head. This is her third sculpture, and she has made two other sculptures that represent her grandchildren.

Hinkle said this is her way of giving her grandchildren a legacy by preserving them in time.
