Cat in the Hat comes to the REP

The REP, located at 1001 E. Princeton St. in Orlando, opens “Dr. Seuss’ The Cat in the Hat” on Feb. 14, and it will be playing until March 24. As it is the REP’s 10th birthday season, there is an Opening Saturday Ticket Special on Feb. 16 at the 2 p.m. or 5:30 p.m. performances, where patrons can purchase one adult ticket and receive one child’s ticket for free. Orange County Government/Parks and Recreation Division is joining with the city of Orlando, Orange Audubon Society, and Atkins to present this year’s 13th annual Orlando Wetlands Festival on Saturday, Feb. 16, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Fort Christmas Historical Park, located at 1300 Fort Christmas Road in Christmas. This free event is an opportunity to celebrate the flora, fauna and wildlife of the Orlando Wetlands Park – a 1,650-acre wetland oasis located on Wheeler Road in Christmas. The A&H’s Family Days at the Museum will celebrate Presidents’ Day with a presidential party on Saturday, Feb. 16, at 1 p.m. in A&H’s Maitland Historical Museum, located at 231 W. Packwood Ave. Be sure to wear red, white and blue to the event. Admission to Family Days at the Museum is free with regular museum admission. The House of Hope Run Around the Pines 5K presented by Florida Hospital will take place Saturday, Feb. 16, at Showalter Field in Winter Park, located at 2525 Cady Way. There will be a 3.1 mile run and walk at 7:30 a.m., followed by a kids’ run at 8:45 a.m. Registration is required. House of Hope is the beneficiary of this event. Chili for Charity, presented by Rotary Club of Winter Park, will take place Wednesday, Feb. 20 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at the Winter Park Farmers Market, located at 200 W. New England Ave. in Winter Park. Visit winterpark.org/content/chili-charity for more information and tickets.

The February Field Trip will be at the Ferndale Preserve, located at 19220 County Road 455 in Ferndale, on Saturday, Feb. 23. Attendees will meet at 8:30 a.m. in the preserve parking lot. From there, birders will hike along a 1.3-mile loop and a few shorter segments. Warning: the trail includes steep portions. Bring a picnic lunch for after the birding. “The Voyages of Doctor Dolittle” will be playing through Feb. 24 at the Orlando Repertory Theatre. The production is perfect for all ages and will be performed in the style of Disney’s “The Lion King” or Animal Kingdom’s “Finding Nemo: The Musical,” with all of Dr. Dolittle’s animal friends portrayed by live actors with puppets.
