Sportsman's Expo in Orlando

SEPT. 1

Sportsman’s Expo will be from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 1, at Bahia Shrine Center, 2300 Pembrook Drive in Orlando. It will be open to the public with free admission. Bahia Shriners of Orlando has partnered with Mosquito Creek Outdoors along with other local vendors. The expo is a family friendly event on hunting, fishing, boating, shooting, camping and hiking or just enjoying the outdoors. For your convenience food and refreshments will be available to purchase all day. Net proceeds from this event are for the benefit of Bahia Shriners facilities and are not tax deductible as a charitable contribution. Call 407-660-8811.

The kids are off school so have some fun in the sun on Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 3.

SEPT. 10

The Art & History Museums – Maitland presents classes and workshops for children and adults beginning on Sept. 10, including painting, drawing, stained glass, jewelry and pottery. Register at ArtandHistory.org, by phone at 407-539-2181, extension 265, or in person at 231 W. Packwood Ave.

SEPT. 13

Enzian’s Popcorn Flicks in Central Park will feature “Viva Las Vegas” from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 13. Gather friends, grab a blanket, and enjoy classic family films once a month under the stars in Winter Park’s Central Park. Bring a picnic dinner and make it a perfect night out for the whole family or an unforgettable date. Films and popcorn are free compliments of Enzian. Through Friday, Aug. 31, all proceeds from kids’ meals purchased at Chipotle Mexican Grill restaurants across the nation will go back to the classroom gardens of Veggie U. Families who purchase a kid’s meal can then bring their receipt back to the restaurant in September and receive a kid’s meal for free.

Crealdé School of Art culminates its popular summer ArtCamp program with a youth art exhibition featuring works of the next generation of talented artists through Sept. 8 in the Showalter Hughes Community gallery on Crealdé’s campus, with almost 300 pieces of artwork on display. • Maitland Library will be closed Monday, Sept. 3, for Labor Day.

• Friends Book Sale is Wednesday, Sept. 5, from 10 a.m. until noon in the Library Courtyard.

• LCC Cultural Cook Southern Cooking with April featuring her specialty Jerk Chicken rangoons is Tuesday, Sept. 11, at 6:30 p.m. Registration is required to attend.

• Wildlife and Landscape Painting with Dorene Butler is Saturday, Sept. 15, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Registration is required to attend.

• The Maitland Public Library hosts preschool story and craft time every Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. Baby time stories and activities are at 10:30 a.m. every Thursday. And Reading Buddies for kindergarten through fifth grade at 4 p.m. every Thursday.

The Art & History Museums – Maitland and the Cornell Fine Arts Museum on the Rollins College campus take part in the Blue Star Museums program, in which active duty military and their families can enjoy free museum admission at more than 1,500 museums nationwide from Memorial Day until Labor Day.
