DR. PHILLIPS  Florida Highway Patrol troopers arranged the transport of two occupants of a crashed vehicle May 8 to Dr. Phillips Hospital -- Roberto Delgado, 47, and Richard Delgado, 15, both of Hialeah.

Although Roberto survived the 8:45 a.m. four-car crash on Apopka-Vineland Road at Meadowcreek Drive with serious injuries, officials pronounced Richard dead at the hospital.

The four cars were traveling north on Apopka-Vineland Road; three had stopped for a red light. But Carlos Cintron Torres, 24, of Kissimmee, did not slow his car while approaching a stopped vehicle driven by Robert Strayer, 32, of Ohio. Torres struck the back-right portion of Strayer's car and the back-left area of the Delgado vehicle.

This caused the Delgado vehicle to be pushed into the car in front of it at the stoplight, which Richard Defeo, 45, of New Jersey, had been driving.

The crash drew blood on Torres, whom authorities arrested on DUI manslaughter charges not related to alcohol.

The other two passengers in the Delgado car were Yanet Cabrera, 38, and Robert Delgado, 18, both also of Hialeah, who each suffered minor injuries. No others involved in the crash -- including unnamed passengers in the Defeo and Strayer vehicles -- suffered injuries, according to reports.

There was a roadblock at the intersection as a result of the crash and subsequent investigation, which remains in progress.
