Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis today issued a statement in response to the U.S. Supreme Court opinion in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization that overturns Roe v. Wade.

The prayers of millions have been answered," DeSantis said via Twitter. "For nearly 50 years, the U.S. Supreme Court has prohibited virtually any meaningful pro-life protection, but this was not grounded in the text, history or structure of the Constitution. By properly interpreting the Constitution, the Dobbs majority has restored the people's role in our republic and a sense of hope that every life counts.

"Florida will continue to defend its recently-enacted pro-life reforms against state court challenges, will work to expand pro-life protections and will stand for life by promoting adoption, foster care and child welfare," he said.

The Supreme Court on Friday issued its opinion on Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization.

"We end this opinion where we began," Justice Samuel Alito wrote in the court's opinion. "Abortion presents a profound moral question. The Constitution does not prohibit the citizens of each State from regulating or prohibiting abortion. Roe and Casey arrogated that authority. We now overrule those decisions and return that authority to the people and their elected representatives."

U.S. Rep. Val Demings also issued a statement.

"I am mad as hell, and every man and woman who supports America's daughters should be mad as hell," she said via Twitter. "Just went to the Supreme Court. This is not the end, it is just the beginning. Every man and woman who believes in our right to make our own decisions must join us and stand up for America’s daughters."
