The 42st annual Great Day in the Country Arts & Crafts Festival is a giant day of fun, games, music, food and great holiday gifts. It's produced by the GFWC Oviedo Woman's Club, which was founded in 1906. Over the last decade the club has raised over $600,000 to promote the arts and to fund scholarships, community organizations, charities and projects. Last year they awarded over $80,000 from Great Day in the Country. Local schools received $16,000 for unfunded programs; $45,000 in grants was awarded to organizations who help women, families, children and senior citizens; and $18,000 in scholarships was awarded to graduating boys and girls from the local high schools as well as women returning to school. The festival, which is free to attendees, is on Saturday, Nov. 14, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Historic Lawton House and Lawton Elementary School in Oviedo, located at 200 W. Broadway St. For more information, visit greatdayoviedo.org
