The Hawks finished their first season with two wins, including the Battle of the Groves trophy against Windermere.
On January 6, Horizon High School's football team was named the Class 5A team academic champions after having the highest cumulative team GPA in the class.
The team finished with a 3.359 GPA.
A post to the team's Facebook page from head coach Dennis Thomas called the players "absolutely amazing".
"Year 1 and we won the battle of the groves (sic) and we are the 5A state academic football champions," the post said.
The Horizon Hawks finished their inaugural season with a 2-8 record, respectable for a first year program. Their wins came over fellow first-year program Lake Buena Vista and crosstown rival Windermere. With the win over the Wolverines, the Hawks won the inaugural Battle for the Groves trophy.
