In light of Tropical Depression 9, Governor Scott declares state of emergency

Orange County is among 42 counties that could be affected when the storm makes landfall Thursday.

In response to Tropical Depression 9, Governor Rick Scott has declared a state of emergency for 42 counties, including Orange. 

The National Hurricane Center expects that the storm will strengthen to a tropical storm, meaning that the storm could have sustained winds up to 39 miles per hour. 

The storm is expected to make landfall north of Orange County on Thursday. For updated information on the storm, visit the National Hurricane Center’s webpage. 

No school cancellations are planned yet. 

“Please be assured school district officials are carefully monitoring the weather,” Orange County Public Schools said on its website. “The district will send messages to parents by phone and update the website regarding any impact on school operations. Also, please check Orange County Government and various city websites for latest updates on the weather.”
