Local businesses host benefits for Pulse shooting victims

The giving keeps going in Winter Park and Maitland this week, as local businesses continue to organize benefits for victims of the Orlando Pulse nightclub shooting.

Giving is as easy as ordering dinner out, or attending a show, and there are events planned with proceeds benefiting those in need nearly every day this week. See below for a calendar of events.

The business community started rallying to raise money for victims in the first few days and hours following the June 12 attack that killed 49 and injured 53. On June 15, the Winter Park Health Foundation announced it would donate $100,000 to the OneOrlando Fund, which Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer founded to provide much needed support to the victims of the Pulse tragedy and their families. As of June 17, the fund had raised $7.5 million.

Throughout the month of June, Peterbrooke Chocolatier in Winter Park is donating 100 percent of its proceeds from chocolate ribbon pop sales to the fund. The pops are available in colored white chocolate, milk chocolate, and dark chocolate, and are also able to be shipped. The Park Avenue chocolate shop is also allowing customers to “round up” their transaction totals to the nearest dollar, with the difference being donated to the OneOrlando Fund through the remainder of June.

Around the corner at Kendall & Kendall salon, 20 percent of proceeds from all product sales in June will be donated to help victims.

Also in Winter Park, Title Boxing Club is offering a free one-month members pass to all Orlando first responders. The club is also lowering its enrollment fee from $100 to $25 this month, with 100 percent of the fee being donated to the Pulse fund. To show support outside of the gym, Title Boxing is also selling custom OrlandoStrong T-shirts for $25 and rainbow wraps for $8 with all proceeds being donated.

Winter Park Lost Pets is also continuing to curate a list of possible donors, adopters or fosters available to help the animals of the Pulse shooting victims. So far, two pets of Pulse victims have been assisted by organizations on the list. To be added as a resource, email [email protected]

JUNE 23

The Winter Park Playhouse stands as one with Orlando as the theater continues to uplift, inspire and help heal by offering its gift of musical theatre. In the spirit of that mission, The Winter Park Playhouse will host a benefit concert on its main stage Thursday, June 23, at 7:30 p.m. Tickets to this special fundraising event are $25 and all proceeds from ticket and concession sales, along with any additional contributions, will go directly to the OneOrlando fund. Tickets can be purchased by calling 407-645-0145 or visiting winterparkplayhouse.org.

Come grab your favorite CDs and vinyls at Park Ave CDs on Corrine Drive and help donate to the Orlando United Fund. The record store will be doing dollar-for-dollar donations with their customers. You can stop by the store and add some cash to their donation jar or simply add it to your total until the end of the day on Thursday, June 23.

JUNE 24

Come out to The Silly Grape, 1720 Fennell St. in Maitland, on Friday, June 24, from 6 to 9 p.m. for the One Orlando, One Pulse, fundraising event. Enjoy live music and foods from around the world in a delicious buffet prepared by Chef Cesar DaCosta. Tickets are $20 and 100-percent of the proceeds will be donated to the OneOrlando Fund.

JUNE 25

Join the Crystal Healing Spa for Love Wins, an evening of mediation, healing and peace on Saturday, June 25, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the East End Market. Love Wins is a free event, but will be collecting donations in any amount for Equality Florida, which is managing the Pulse fund for the families and victims. The evening will consist of guided meditation, sound healing, songs and healing mantras. No experience is necessary and all are welcome.

JUNE 26

Come out for a night of Orlando bands working together to benefit the Pulse victims fund via Equality Florida at The Haven Lounge, 6700 Aloma Ave. Orlando Love is proudly presented by Alikour Productions, Chris Marsh Productions, Maniacal Mojo and Von Skull Media, a $5 donation gets you in the door and donating more is always encouraged, but not required. In addition to the ticket sales being donated, there will also be a raffle.

At noon on Sunday, June 26, the American Legion Post 19 along with Squadron 19 will be hosting a free concert to bring people together and celebrate the lives of those lost in Pulse shooting. Donations to benefit victims will be taken at the entrance. The event will be at 5320 Alloway St. in Orlando, just west of Winter Park. For more information, call 407-622-1807.

On Sunday, June 26, 20 percent of all sales at A’s Sweet Treats will go to the OneOrlando Fund that supports the victims and families of the Pulse tragedy. A's is located at 513 S. Park Avenue in Winter Park. The event is form noon to 10 p.m. Visis assweettreats.com for more information.

JUNE 28

ORL Food Lab is hosting a fundraising event at the East End Market in support of the OneOrlando Fund. Join Thomas Ward of Pig Floyd’s, John Cheek of Orlando Brewing, Jesse Wolfe of O’Dang Hummus and Barbara Lezcano of Sweet Babs sauces to hear how they got their start and what's the inspiration behind the foods and drinks we love on Tuesday, June 28, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The event is free, but donations will be accepted and donated to the OneOrlando Fund. Members from more than 50 local art organizations are coming together to host a benefit performance called “Beautiful Together, an artistic journey toward hope” at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, June 28, in the Walt Disney Theater at Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts with all proceeds going to OneOrlando Fund. On Thursday, June 30, restaurants across Florida will host Dine Out for Orlando United events. Led by the Florida Restaurant and Lodging Association in partnership with VISIT FLORIDA, the fundraiser, Dine Out for Orlando United, will be a day for Florida restaurants, their employees and guests to make a difference in the lives of those affected by the tragedy. All proceeds raised will be donated to the OneOrlando Fund. Local restaurants participating in the fundraiser include: Cask & Larder in Winter Park; First Watch in Maitland; Krispy Kreme Doughnuts in Winter Park; The Ravenous Pig in Winter Park; Spatz Deli & Billiards in Winter Park; Square 1 Burgers & Bar in Winter Park; Swine & Sons Provisions in Winter Park; and Zona Fresca Fresh Mexican Grill in Winter Park. JULY 3 - JULY 10

Dunkin’ Brands Group, Inc.,the parent company of Dunkin’ Donuts and Baskin-Robbins, announced that starting Sunday, July 3 through Sunday, July 10 approximately 356 participating Dunkin' Donuts and Baskin-Robbins restaurants in North and Central Florida and select restaurants in Georgia, Alabama and Louisiana will collect $1 donations from guests to be distributed to The OneOrlando Fund. Dunkin’ Donuts and Baskin-Robbins franchisees are partnering with The OneOrlando Fund to support the Orlando community and those most affected in the wake of the terrible tragedy that happened on Sunday, June 12. One hundred percent of the funds raised through the program will benefit The OneOrlando Fund and those most affected by this tragedy.
