Louis Roney: Bits and tidbits

There were no sun-blocking lotions in those days, and if we applied baby oil, it was probably a useless precaution.

Marco Rubio already has more experience than did Barack Obama when he became president. Also I figure that Rubio is 82 percent smarter than Obama — maybe 83 percent. The country needs some R & R — no, not rest and recreation, Romney and Rubio!

Where are the jobs?

When is Obama going to give us the real dope on employment? Some 250,000 jobs a month are needed. May’s employment numbers were so bad they couldn’t be “adjusted” — a mere 69,000. June just came in — 80,000 jobs filled, bad again! Stocks are negative for the year — and we are supposed to give this guy another four-year-term? Are we nuts?!

Not buying it

Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi told us, “we must pass this bill so that we can find out what’s in it.” The now-passed Obama health care reform bill is constitutionally interpreted to be a “tax” — of course a middle class tax. This tax makes yet another lie from Obama, who swore he would never ever raise taxes on anyone making less than $250,000 a year! The Supreme Court chose to call Obama’s compulsory health insurance premium a “tax” — a tax that Rush Limbaugh says is “the largest tax ever levied on anyone in the world.” A rose by any other name is still a tax. The court’s action continues to swell the unlimited power of the federal government, i.e. Washington can now mandate that you do or buy anything it wishes, by taxing you if you don’t comply. Unless and until we rid ourselves of Obama in the White House, we shall never again enjoy the freedom we deserve and can afford — the freedom for which every other nation has heretofore envied us Americans.

Good advice from Martha Washington

“I am determined to be cheerful and happy in whatever situation I may be; for I have learned from experience that the greater part of our happiness or misery depends upon our dispositions, and not upon our circumstances.”

Lesson about the sun

Young people of my generation often had to learn the hard way that the rays of the sun can cause skin cancer particularly in lighter-skinned people. At every opportunity during my youth, my friends and I spent whole days in the sun and surf at New Smyrna. In WWII standing watch on Navy ships brought still more sunshine. There were no sun-blocking lotions in those days, and if we applied baby oil, it was probably a useless precaution. The sun’s affects are long lasting and may not appear as cancer until one’s later years. I am a living example of this dangerous affect as I had yet another procedure on my face for skin cancer. For your sake, use sunblock — please!
