Design plans for Independence Lane approved

On Monday night, the City Council and CRA Board approved the 60 percent plans for an upgraded Independence Lane and authorized the city manager to coordinate the completion of the design and bidding processes.

A framework of the Downtown Master Plan update, Independence Lane is the spine of Downtown Maitland. An enhanced Independence Lane, trimmed with festoon lighting, brick pavers, and decorative landscaping, will establish a sense of place in the downtown core as Downtown Maitland thoughtfully redevelops based on the feedback of residents. Additionally, the city is obligated to deliver upgrades to Independence Lane as outlined in the Maitland City Centre development agreement, which was approved by the City Council on Nov. 17, 2014.

The design is expected to be complete and ready for bid in late February. To view more information about the soon-to-be upgraded Independence Lane, please visit itsmymaitland.com.
