Snow is coming to Lake Lily Park on Saturday

Snow is coming to Lake Lily Park on Saturday

Snow and Santa are making a special appearance at Saturday’s Season of Light celebration at Lake Lily Park. Sledding “discs” will be available for use on the snow slide. Maitland Middle School jazz, chorus, and orchestra students will provide live music during the event. The event culminates in a fireworks display at 7:30 p.m.

Santa’s Parade returns on Dec. 10

The Maitland Police Department’s Santa’s Parade event returns on Saturday, Dec. 10. The time and route will be posted on itsmymaitland.com when available. MPD will intermittently post Santa’s whereabouts on the city’s Facebook page at facebook.com/itsmymaitland. Residents are encouraged to not call the Maitland Police Department; instead, residents should follow the city’s Facebook page to track the status – and location – of Santa’s whereabouts.

Screen on the Green

The last Screen on the Green of the year is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 17. This month’s event is a double feature, with an encore presentation of “Frozen” starting at 6 p.m., followed by “The Good Dinosaur.” Bring your chairs and blankets to the Maitland Middle School Soccer Field at 1701 Choctaw Trail and we’ll bring you the stars.

City Council meeting recap

The City Council met on Monday, Nov. 28:

Three presentations were scheduled:

• GFOA Certificate of Achievement for Excellent Financial Report FY15 CAFR - Jerry Gray

• GFOA Certificate of Achievement for Excellent Popular Annual Finance Report - Jerry Gray

• Art Presentation - Andrea Bailey Cox, Executive Director & CEO Art & History Museums – Maitland

The consent agenda was approved as presented:

• Approval of minutes of Nov. 14, 2016, City Council meeting

• Receipt of the Lakes Advisory Board Meeting Minutes of Oct. 19, 2016

• Receipt of the Planning & Zoning Commission Minutes of Oct. 20, 2016

• Receipt of the Fourth Quarter Financial Snapshot

Decision items included:

• Appointment - Transportation Advisory Board (one)

• Pension Ordinance - In Service Distribution

One discussion item was on the agenda:

• Transportation Advisory Board Recommendation

Maitland Senior Center December Friday Flicks schedule

The Senior Center hosts movie screenings for patrons on Fridays at 1 p.m. The December schedule follows:

Dec. 2: “The Meddler”

Dec. 9: “Hunt for the Wilderpeople”

Dec. 16: No movie screening due to scheduled holiday luncheon.

Dec. 23: No movie due to observance of holidays.

Dec. 30: No movie due to observance of holidays.
