The Maitland City Council met on March 28th at 6:30 p.m. in the City Hall Council Chambers. Below is a synopsis of that meeting. The next regular scheduled Council meeting will be held on Monday, April 11, 2011. For updates, please check our website www.itsmymaitland.com.

Consent Agenda:

• The Council minutes and the Charter Review Workshop minutes of March 14, 2011 were approved as presented.

• A Resolution was adopted in support of the design, construction, and implementation of the SunRail Project.

• Authorized a contract with National Office Furniture, Inc. in the amount of $25,378.80 for the purchase of furniture for the new fire station.

• Approved the purchase of replacement playground equipment at Bellamy Park and Hamlet Park from Rep Services for a price not to exceed $55,683.06.

Decision Items:

• The decision on the National Historical Designation for the Maitland Library Building was tabled until the May 9th meeting to give the library staff an opportunity to submit additional information.

• Introduced on first reading, an ordinance amending Chapter 7.5, Article IV of the Maitland City Code, regulating the CDP amendment process and set the Public Hearing date as April 11, 2011.

• Approved the formation of a Charter Review Commission and authorized funding from the operating budget. Each council member will appoint one member to the Commission at the April 25th council meeting. The council will also consider appointing two members at large.

• Adopted a resolution supporting a Qualified Target Industry Tax Refund Program application by AcAe Software LLC, including a commitment of $37,200 over a six-year payout period, beginning FY 13.

Discussion Items:

• Discussed a draft ordinance that would regulate the sale or dispensing of beer and wine at selected City properties. Staff was directed to make changes to the draft ordinance and bring back to the May 9th meeting for further discussion.

• Discussed the results of a speed study conducted by the City after a request was made at the January 24th Council meeting to reduce the speed limit on Horatio Ave. from 35 mph to 30 mph between 17-92 and Minnehaha Road. The study was conducted in compliance with the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices, 2009 Edition (MUTCD) Staff will evaluate the use of traffic calming devices at the intersection of Horatio and 17-92 and bring back to a future Council meeting.


MAITLAND MEN’S CLUB ANNUAL GARAGE SALE

The Maitland Men’s Club will be holding their annual Garage Sale on Friday and Saturday, May 6-7, 2011 at 640 S. Orlando Ave (old Steak and Ale). This is a major fundraiser for the Men’s Club with proceeds designated for eye, dental and medical care for local children. The names of needy recipients are provided by local school social workers. Donated items may be dropped off at the sale site any Saturday morning between the hours of 8 a.m. and 12 noon. Charitable contribution receipts will be provided.
