Fall is here, and as high school football season draws to a close, Thanksgiving dinner is now so close that we can almost smell it cooking in the kitchen. We're reminded in these busy times of meal-planning, food shopping, and guest lists to pay attention to those folks around us who we often take for granted. This list of people is usually much longer than we realize, but they are always worthy of recognition and thanks.

While we routinely think of family, friends, neighbors, teachers and coaches as valuable contributors to our lives, we often overlook others every day. While we may not always think about it, the policeman or emergency vehicle driving by your home headed to a call is on its way to be some Maitland citizen's blessing today. Maitland's public works, community development, parks and recreation, building, utilities, finance, communications, and human resources departments, as well as our Maitland Public Library, make our lives better every day. So the next chance you get, stop by and say thanks.

Of course, the freedoms that we all enjoy have and continue to be hard earned by our veterans and active-duty service men and women all over the world. We can never forget to remember the cost of our freedoms and the sacrifices freely made by these courageous people and their families. The next time that you run into a veteran or an active-duty serviceperson, take a moment and say thank you. Now that's cool!

Finally, please include our Maitland City Council in your prayers that we may demonstrate the wisdom, discernment and impeccable stewardship of our Maitland community including our children and our children's children. Thank you for your time and attention. You'll be hearing from us again soon. Please have a safe and happy Thanksgiving.
